Well, the Mashers finished 66-94, good for last place in the league and 3 games behind the last safe team. Back down to gold for Medford after surviving-- and nearly getting promoted once-- for five seasons. It helped that there were three playoff teams in my division:

The 101-win Sexton Summit Purple Warriors, who choked away the division and finished a game behind in the first wild card spot. They set up a righty-righty strategy, anchoring an all-righty lineup behind DJ Lemahieu, Live Rendon, SE Heillmann, and 99 SE Rickey, and fronting their rotation with 99 Caruthers, 99 Mungo, and 97 Luque.

The Yellowstone Geysers snuck into the division with 102 wins, sporting a confusingly mediocre team. They had neutral park factors and an all-live lineup aside from 83 Judnich and 91 Rizzuto, yet led the conference in a large portion of offensive metrics, even after benching their best player, 96 Johnny Mize, with about 20 games left. Their pitching staff is held together mostly by live pitching; only 93 Pedro and Hong-Chih Kuo are the notable historical pitchers on their roster.

The 85-win Berlin Bears managed to sneak into the second wild-card spot, presumably to be destroyed by probable the Cy Young winner Caruthers. They were led by 100 Boggs, 99 Rickey, and yet another DJ Lemahieu (that makes three in the division).

There isn't much to write home about regarding the Mashers. Rocky Colavito had another great season, Matt Chapman hit 25 dingers and drove in 87, and Garry Maddox hit .300 again. Kirby Yates was the only effective pitcher, saving all 30 of his opportunities to the tune of a 2.23 ERA.

Those who made it this week, enjoy the playoffs.

A violent bullpen explosion ends my playoff Sunday after one game (this includes PT 19) as the Coons drop their wild card game, 8-3. Big Walt did not start, even though I submitted the team like five times. Sometimes I just want to throw the laptop out of the window.

Did you submit your team while the game said that it was simulating? I've done this and my changes didn't take. It's especially a problem on Saturday night and Sunday night/Monday morning (here in the US) when the season just ended or when it's preparing for a new one.

What does your roster look like right now? Lots of options. Appling could DH or go to 1B/3B. Gilliam could train up to super sub status at each INF/OF position but not really be a "starter." It sort of depends on how you weight offense vs defense as to where you want to put everyone.
Sorry. You won 120 games but you were in the wrong division this season as you ended up being the wild card and anything can happen in one game. As you had an off game and lost to an 89 win team.

This update will be pretty short, sort of like the Frogs' stay in the playoffs this week...

As mentioned above the Frogs went 120-42 (+384) this week. This was the 5th time (and 4th week in a row) the team has topped 120 wins. Unfortunately, it was also the 2nd time the team has won 120 and not won the title.

The problem down the stretch was going 3-6 against Long Beach-Compton (123-39, +460). LBC, the other whale in the division, ended up winning the division by 3 games which was the margin of that final nine-game h2h stretch of games. It the Frogs went 5-4 against LBC, the division would've been ours. Woulda, coulda, shoulda.

Placed in the precarious position of 120-win team fighting 89-win team in winner-take-all game before 97,815 fans, it did not go well. The Faybik Experience advanced behind 100 Johan Santana and a 3-1 victory over the Frogs. The Frogs out-hit Faybik 10-5, but also committed an error (Ripken Jr.), a passed ball (Pudge), grounded into 2 double plays (Randolph, Ozzie), got caught stealing (Ichiro), and left 8 men on base. Ed Walsh wasn't quite good enough to work through all that. It was a fitting way to exit for a team that strangely struggled to score runs (.271 average, 877 runs scored are both the lowest output in the previous 4 seasons when winning 120+ games became a "thing").

Good luck to all still simming!

No, I did it this morning, hours and hours and hours ago. I know that submits don't take anymore once it already sims.

My 91 Eddie Collins just led the entire Perfect 428 in Batter WAR. Beating out the likes of 99 Roger Conner and 100 Norm Cash. He has very unassuming batting ratings, but his defense and baserunning went a long way.

I'm not talking about once a simulation has started. It happens in the middle of the night and so it's not while it's simulating games, even though it says it's simulating. So are you positive it didn't say that it's simulating?

well, that was short, got beat in 4 games by a team that was under .500 in regular season. Wait till next year. Same team is now tied with the 131-31 Dolphins 1 game each.

He had a 10.5 WAR in real life season. He is a WAR beast. I had to AH him to get Clemens. Kept Hornsby. Collins a great fielder. What was his Zone Range during your season?

P420: A Sub-League Battle of the Titans

The P420 Division Series slate included 3 sweeps, the most impressive being the Hickory Crawdads making short work of the 8-time Perfect champs Denver Doggos. This sets up a titanic clash in the AC, with the 128-win Crawdads hosting the 122-win (and also 8-time Perfect champs) Pawnee Harvesters. Pawnee won the season series, 5-2, and had the better Pythagorean record, 131-31 to Hickory's 129-33, so this Sub-League Series could go either way and should be a classic.

Over in the NC, Huntley, fresh off a sweep of the Tokyo Sparrows, hosts Joe Dec in the Sub-League Series. Joe Dec has had a long but steady climb to this point; the team was in Gold from 2031 to 2037, only lasted in Diamond for 2 years, and then was in Gold from 2040 through 2046 before making it back to Diamond. That time, Joe Dec won the Diamond championship in 2047 with a 101-61 record and made it to Perfect. In this, the team's 7th year in Perfect, the Dec put together their best year, winning 89 games (a best in Perfect) and making the Perfect playoffs for the second time. Will this be their week to break through to the Perfect Series?

Dang. SE K-Rod had a 0.60 ERA until giving up a grand slam in the next to last game. Lol

P420: I'm Sensing a Pattern...

So far, in the AC Sub-League Battle of the Titans, Hickory has held serve and won both home games, with the Crawdads' Cy Young defeating the Harvesters' Cy Young and the Crawdads' Walter Johnson defeating the Harvesters', yep, Walter Johnson. Game 3, in Pawnee, features the Crawdads' Ed Walsh against the Harvesters'...

...Waite Hoyt.

Eh, it was fun while it lasted.

Anyway, good luck to Pawnee, as they look to get back into the series and keep their quest for a 3-peat alive!

It was not to be; the Hickory Crawdads will continue their fantastic season in the Sub-League Series after a shocking sweep of the Harvesters! Ed Walsh and the Crawdads won game 3, 7-0, and then Hickory's Rube Waddell out-dueled Pawnee's Ed Walsh in game 4, 9-2, for the sweep.

After sweeping through two 8-time Perfect League champions, I'd say Hickory will be favored in the P420 Perfect Series, no matter the opponent.

Speaking of which, over in the NC Sub-League Series, the Huntley Red Raiders won games 1 and 2 at home, 16-0 (!) and 4-2. Joe Dec cut their deficit to 2-1, however, with a fitting 2-1 victory in game 3, behind excellent work from Rick Reuschel, who matched Curt Schilling almost exactly (Schilling: 8.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K; Reuschel: 8.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K), and Jesse Orosco and Dizzy Dean, who held the Red Raiders scoreless long enough for the Dec to push across an 11th-inning walk-off against Mariano Rivera and Lee Smith.

Yes, because I always look whether the timer is up.

Ah, doesn't matter, we wouldn't have won anyway...

P420: Hey! Ho! Hickory! Huntley! Huge!

P420 will come down to the Hickory Crawdads and the Huntley Red Raiders! Huntley advanced by defeating Joe Dec 4 games to 1, winning game 4 3-0 behind Rube Marquard and game 5 7-6 behind, well, the offense, specifically a 2-run pinch hit homer off the bat of Hank Aaron in the top of the 8th.

Huntley and Hickory met 4 times in the regular season, splitting a 2-game series in Huntley and in Hickory. The teams are interesting contrasts in terms of construction, despite having a handful of players in common: Huntley rolls out an 11-man pitching staff (with starter Roger Clemens joining the relief corps for the playoffs) and 14 offensive players, allowing for 5 different starters in its vs-L lineup; meanwhile, Hickory backs a 5-man rotation with an 8-man bullpen and features the same starting 9 on offense no matter the handedness of the opponent's starting pitcher.

Will Hickory's superior pitching depth carry the Crawdads to their third Perfect League championship? Or will Huntley's platoons give the Red Raiders the advantage as they look to capture their sixth Perfect League title? The P420 championship hangs in the balance!

So, naturally, the Red Raiders and Crawdads split the first 2 games of the series in Huntley, with Rube Waddell carrying the Red Raiders to victory, 3-1, in game 1, and Walter Johnson shutting down Huntley and DiMaggio and Bonds homering to lead the Crawdads to victory in game 2, 5-2.

It's literally impossible for Hickory and Huntley to split the 3 upcoming games in Hickory, so who knows what will happen? More to come...
