Is This a Legitimate Save?
This is so bizarre I have to ask.
Bottom of the 9th and I'm leading 4-3. I bring in my closer and he walks the lead off hitter. Then the game is called because of rain and he's credited with a save. Legit save? |

From my limited understanding of the rules, the game is considered complete as of the last completed inning.... in this case the bottom of the 8th. My answer is that it is not a save.

Pretty sure you can't get a save without recording an out.

I have nothing to add, just that that's a fascinating little statistical question that I think you only get in baseball.

Not a save. Pitcher must record at least one-third of an inning pitched, per Rule 9.19 (c).

Thanks for the feedback.
It looks like it shouldn't have been a save but it's such a rare occurrence I don't think it's worth the trouble of fixing. Also, if this happened in real life, you can be sure there is no way the game would've been called (unless, of course, the Yankees benefited from it since I seem to remember the Twins getting hosed many years ago in a rainout vs the Yanks). |

Saves!!
There was a rare save in MLB yesterday. In a 9 inning game a reliever got the save by pitching the last 5 innings.....
Lol. I've seen it before, but it is a rare feat |

Yeah, that only happens because the "starter" didn't last 5 innings, so it's up to the official scorer to give someone else the win. Since the next guy pitched 3 decent enough innings, they gave him credit, which let Pruitt go almost 6 innings for a "save". Thanks TB for making fantasy leagues go crazy...

Boy Tampa's going to cause so many issues. You could conceivably get someone with 80 "GS" this year.
