" I know we are an expansion franchise but I expect you to make the World Series in two years."
"I am disappointed in your loyalty to the current manager (whose won a pennant and has a good overall record) especially since I asked you before the season to upgrade there." "Where's my power hitter? Where's my power hitter? Where's my power hitter?" All the above are actual owner goals/demands made of me when I served as GM of a team. |

Maybe we can get a way to negotiate with the owner regarding goals?
Or perhaps the owner has a list of goals and we have to choose a certain number of them based on difficulty/owner personality. Maybe each goal is worth a certain number of points and we have to choose goals until we hit the owner's point demand value. Such a system would still probably force us to address certain aspects of the team, but allow us to choose the path forward. |

Really need to revamp this system. This was last year's game, but I remember having 8 team leaders on the squad and my owner gave me a goal to "add more leadership". Like...what, does the whole 25 man roster need to be a captain? It's funny because I believe you could have too much leadership in the old games. The "too many chefs in the kitchen" type thing. I turned the goals off at that point. I'm in an online league so still have to deal with it and it's very much like what the others have mentioned. |

I started turning off owner goals after a game where I had won 4 WS in a row and my owner gave me, "Did you not hear me?" speech about wanting a power hitter. I had 2 40HR guys on the team, and just found myself very badly wishing for the option to issue a reply email with a short and pithy suggestion for his leisure time activity...
Hey...can we get an option like that?

This kind of thing is why my owners often meet with nasty...accidents.
You know, like 37 stab wounds. That kind of accident.

before i turned off owners goals, if they got insane on me - i just wrote a news article that had them involved in a robbery that went bad and after the funeral, the heirs just sold the team and i created a new guy more to my team needs .... (this OOTP game is, after all, an alternate reality - isn't it?
