baseball card questions

When exactly does the sim generate baseball cards? After the season, but when? Dec. 1? Jan. 1? Any old time after the season is over? Also, I noticed a button that says "update baseball cards". I pressed it and nothing happens. I do have baseball cards checked. What is that button used for and when do you use it? Does the sim generate baseball cards for the whole league or just MY team? The manual tells you nothing about the cards other than the sim does it or you can do it manually. I would appreciate some understanding of this topic. Thank you very much.

The game generates cards twice a season - once at the All-Star break, and the second time after the season is over when the major awards are announced.
