Owner goals need serious work
I realize that owner goals are fully optional; that MLB owners are not always the most rational actors; and that they really don't affect the game much. But some of them are rather outlandish, particularly with the desires to extend a particular player.
I'm running a Twins franchise atm, started in 2018. Owner goal was to extend Brian Dozier. Held on to him since I was in playoff contention until the end of the season; owner cuts my 2019 payroll by about $30 million. So, no way in hell to keep Dozier.
2019, we win the division. Joe Mauer, who has degraded to a half-star player, is still kicking around. Guess who Mr. Pohlad wants an extension for?
I didn't extend either player, obviously, and got chastened by RoboPohlad, but still ... shouldn't the "please re-sign this guy" goals take performance and/or budget into account? I dunno, it's a neat feature and it sometimes does help point out deficiencies on your team (maybe I SHOULD improve at catcher!) but wanting me to re-sign Joe Mauer to a contract extension two years after he actually retired in RL might be a dumb idea.
