Even though Roger Clemens gave up 2 more runs than Schilling and Walsh combined, Huntley took game 3, 7-2, to complete the sweep of the Charmanders. Next up? Don't know yet; the Blue Farm Bombers upset the Amsterdam Armada in game 1 of their Division Series matchup, but the Armada righted the ship (sorry) to take the next 2 games. Game 4 starts in a few minutes...

Over in the NC, the New Orleans Yankees staked their claim as the NC team (and possibly the team) to beat, knocking off the Miami Jeters in 4. The Seattle Mac swept the Toronto T-34s (it was a rough Division Series for all teams Toronto), but they will face an uphill battle against said Yankees.

The best team in P420 after the All-Star Break was the Amsterdam Armada, who went 53-13 on their way to a stellar 116-46 record. The second-leading offense in the AC is lead by DH Willie Keeler, who led the league in plate appearances (768), at-bats (703), hits (245), doubles (59), and batting average (.349); the starting rotation of Cy Young, Lefty Grove, Tim Keefe, Eppa Rixey, and Roger Clemens is backed by a fantastic defense featuring 2B Jackie Robinson, SS/3B Honus Wagner, and 3B/SS Bill Dahlen.

The Red Raiders won the season series against the Armada 4-3, but as so often seems to happen, each team won the series in the other team's house. In the most recent matchup, Huntley took 3 of 4 in Amsterdam at the end of August and beginning of September.

Can the Red Raiders sink the Perfect League championship hopes of Amsterdam? Or will it be the Armada sailing their way through the Sub-League Series? No matter what, a boatload of nautical puns will be visible from the shore as Huntley and Amsterdam clash!

Come to think of it, I only remember one time where the Raccoons lost in the playoffs to a team that wasn't comparable or above.

We were down 2 games to 1 vs the 83-80 St. Peters Warbirds that we went 14-5 against in the regular season. So in game 4, we were trailing 3-2 going to the top of the 9th and they had perfect Eck pitching. Luke Appling promptly tripled to lead off and the AI brought in 96 Rivera, even though Eck shouldn't have been that tired. Suzuki then singled off of Rivera to tie things up and then he walked Boggs. Finally, Keeler delivered the game winning single.

So now it's on to game 5 with our Schilling vs their 96 Gibson. Hopefully, that quote above remains true.

The Frogs subdued the Cleveland Naps in 4 games in the NC Divisional Series. Seeing that the Michigan Stags pulled the upset against DownEast in the other DS, this means La Crosse will host Michigan for some upper Midwest bragging rights in the Sub-League Series. It also means the Frogs (barring a return of the dreaded home field advantage bug) will have the home field throughout the rest of the playoffs.

In G1 of the DS, the Frogs relied on a 6th inning, go-ahead 2-run homer from 100 Barry Bonds against 100 Roger Clemens to seal the 3-2 victory.

G2 was the only loss for the Frogs, and a hard-luck 4-3 loss in 10 innings type at that. This game saw the Frogs hit into 3 double plays, get caught stealing twice, suffer 2 errors committed by their own pitchers, and nearly get out of a bases-loaded no-out 10th-inning jam before walking a batter with 36 eye rating for the go-ahead run with 2 outs. D'oh.

G3 continued the string of 1-run games. This time the Frogs were the victors. Super Ichiro hit a 2-run homer in the 3rd inning and the opponent's Heinie Zimmerman hit an RBI single in the 3rd inning. That was the sum total of all scoring plays. It was SE Smoltz doing his thing in the Frogs' starting rotation for a change.

The Frogs clinched in G4 in 7-3 fashion. The only "blow out" game of the series. Ichiro was selected as series MVP and then took the occasion to run his mouth a little bit.

PS: Congrats Secret lab in advance.
Looks like you were a bit too hasty to give up, lol. Nice work taking the final 3 games of the series. Dodgers vs SmallBallers for the right to face the winner of Frogs vs Stags.

The 126 W Blackhawks were knocked off by the 94 W Cant Evens and the 131 W Raccoons lost to the 83 W Warbirds. So the NC champs should have a pretty easy time of things in the WS.

You know, I could be happy for the Warbirds if I thought there was a person still managing them, but they appear to be on autopilot so instead of feeling happy for them, it just sucks.

So I'll be rooting for the Dolphins to get their 8th perfect championship. I hope you can take out the Dukes in the LCS and win it all this year. Good luck to everyone else who remains. And if the Warbirds manager is still active, then congratulations to you!

FYI, looks like the home field advantage is back to normal this week. Both Sub-League Series teams in P401 that should have it, do have it.

Critters squeeze through the Spokane RipTide in five games. Pitching was the name of the game; we scored only 13 runs in the series, and conceded just 11.

Now 1-0 up against those Red Sox again in the LCS.

Over in the other league it's the Winter Springs Gold Miners and the crosstown pretenders, the Portland Kooks.

The Piranha went down 3-1 against The Spam Spam in the division series, which leaves us just outside the promotion places.

Overall really happy with how the season panned out–finishing 91-71 with a +155 Run Diff, the second best in the entire league.

Season 35 has been the teams best performance since promotion...

Thanks, old timer. Bummer about the Raccoons getting bounced by the Warbirds. Would've been fun to go up against a known quantity in the WS (if we make it past the Dukes). Better luck next season!

Frogs defeat Stags in G1 of the P401 Sub-League Series. Their POTM Scherzer was no match for my 100 Ed Walsh. 100 Lou Gehrig smacked a 1st inning 3-run homer and that was plenty in the 5-0 victory.

Frogs are sending out 99 Coveleski, 100 Smoltz, and 100 Seaver for the next few games. Stags will be countering with 100 Dutch Leonard, SE 99 Hal Newhouser (*gulp*, I want that card), and 97 Phil Niekro.

So far, the P420 AC Sub-League Series is a certifiable classic, and I'm not just saying that because Huntley is up 2-0. In fact, according to the absolutely hilarious "quote" from me in the game 2 recap, all this is making me cranky!

The Frogs took G2 of the Sub-League Series 5-3 and, in doing so, capitalized fully on their home field advantage for a 2-0 series lead. Series now heads to Michigan.

In game 2, the Frogs got a go-ahead 2-RBI single from defensive sub Johnny Pesky in the 8th inning. This came the inning after Pesky also recorded a pinch-hit RBI double in his first plate appearance of the game in the 7th inning. Pesky hasn't been a regular since 2051, but he's been a member of all 4 PL title teams (2032, 2044, 2049, 2052). Pesky started 3048 regular season games for the Frogs. In those games, Pesky has 3310 hits, 905 doubles, 1374 runs scored, 1381 RBI, 100 SB, +157.7 ZR at 2B, +136.1 ZR at SS, and a .289/.336/.390 batting line. It's been quite the career. The Frogs might consider naming one of their foul poles after him...

Now we await the entirely unpredictable RNG roll of 99 Newhouser vs 100 Smoltz.

Game 3: Amsterdam enters the bottom of the 7th trailing Huntley 2-0...but after plating 4 in the 7th and 7 in the 8th, the Armada have the Red Raiders back on their radar, winning the game 11-3 and reducing their deficit in the series to 2-1.

Frogs made short work of 99 Newhouser en route to a commanding 3-0 Sub-League Series lead. SE John Smoltz continues to go out and get the job done with 9 IP and 1 ER.

The Frogs will look to 100 Seaver to beat Michigan's 97 Niekro in G4.

On the other side of the bracket, Belfast and San Francisco are deadlocked 1-1.

P420: Huntley v Amsterdam Game 4

OK, well, on the one hand, I suppose my in-game alter ego is cranky because it was yet another extra-inning game between the Red Raiders and the Armada. But, on the other hand...well, just look at this one. Don't think I've ever seen a crazier playoff game!!

Frogs dropped G4 in 16 innings. Stags' 100 Lou Gehrig hit a pair of solo HR, including a walkoff job in the 16th. Really putrid 11/60 performance by the Frog offense. Stags' 98 Randy Johnson was a star in relief with 5 IP of 1-hit work.

The Gehrig walkoff solo HR came on a 1-0 count the half-inning after the Frogs left the bases loaded...

The Critters have been outscored, 31-17, in the LCS.

And yet, we lead the series 3-2 after winning Game 5 in *17* innings. Those Red Sox are probably spitting in anger.

Alas, I am off to bed.

Big upset on the other side of the P420 bracket, as the 87-75 Seattle Mac defeat the 102-win New Orleans Yankees, 4-2, to reach the Perfect League Series! No matter which team emerges victorious from the AC, the Mac will have the much, much, much more fully rested bullpen...
