I never revel in an athletes bad fortune. But Braun got a reprieve on a technicality last time around. So I was actually happy to see this.

And how ****ing stupid do you have to be to be suspended once, and then continue to use? He was handed a gift two years ago.

My understanding is that this relates more to the past and not a recent positive test. That leads me to believe that it isn't so much stupidity for continuing to use but stupidity for using the first time.

Who said he continued to use? This is fallout from the situation in Miami not a new test.

They're playing tapes of interviews that he gave a year and a half ago in which he swore he was innocent. Now he's saying he made mistakes like everybody else. What a goddamned liar.

Didn't we have a huge thread on this awhile back? It needs to be resurrected, so we can point fingers at the idiots that INSISTED that he was completely clean, despite the evidence.

I am hoping that I did not insist that he was innocent. To my recollection I was for him getting off based on the technicality. I may be misremembering.

I don't recall you being aggressive at all. There were many that were, that used the technicality as proof-positive that he was innocent. Even Ryan Braun tried this technique.

I am going to say that:
2 more players get suspended for more days than Braun
10 players get 50 day suspensions
10 players get less than 50 days
5 players get no suspensions (that we know of)

That's how I feel about it as well. And I feel bad for the guy who was thrown under the bus in his previous sample handling.

Jeff Fischbach was driving to Miller Park on Monday evening when he heard the news about Ryan Braun's suspension on the radio.

And he was already wearing a blue No. 8 T-shirt.

Fishbach thought about driving to Kohl's to pick up another Brewers jersey -- anyone but Braun's. Not enough time.

So he called his friend Danny Henken, who grabbed a roll of duct tape. And so, in the parking lot before the game, as Fischbach waited for the coals on his grill to heat up, he taped an "X" over Braun's number and "Liar" over the All-Star's name.

Gaylord Perry lied about cheating, got caught, took the punishment mandated by baseball, life went on.

I find that as more baseball coverage consists of outrage over PED scandals, the less I care about reading about baseball for some reason. Which seems kind of self-defeating for sportswriters, but whatever.
