The South Wins and a Plague Begins: Part I of a longer story

Before this begins, I’d like to say that this story is NOT based OFF ANY POLITICAL PREFERENCE OF MINE!! I am doing this save because I like alternate history as a genre, not to promote any political ideology. Got it? Good.

In 1861, a war began as President Lincoln was inaugurated as the President of the United States. In his first term, he would try his best to lead the Union army against that of the Confederate army, which he would go on to suffer heavy losses from time and time again. The army would make a slight comeback in 1864, but this time with a new president as Abraham Lincoln would be assassinated in the summer of 1863. Hannibal Hamlin, Lincoln’s Vice President, would go on to be inaugurated as the 17th President of the United States. During his time, he was largely seen as ineffective by the general public until the previously mentioned 1864 attack down south which would prove to be ineffective. By Election Day of 1864, Hannibal Hamlin would only barely be re-elected over George McClellan, as there was still hope within some people that the Union could win. Sadly for them, on March 28th, 1865, after swift attacks from the Confederate army, the American Civil War had ended with a Southern Victory. Over the next years from 1865 to 1867 the country would try rebuilding under President Hamlin and Vice President Johnson, however both had conflicting visions with Andrew Johnson eventually being ousted from Vice President, replaced with John Fremont. The country was on the decline from almost every angel you look at it. Yet, there was a sport captivating the masses and providing a distraction from Post-Civil War life in the North, that being the game of Base Ball. Local teams were forming all across US lands to give people a distraction from the torment of economic downturn. Eventually in 1867, someone got the idea to form a professional league for baseball. That league would be known as the National Championship League of Base Ball (NCL). However the leagues season would be shortened do to a outbreak of a “Spotted Plague” in Newark, NJ which would turn an otherwise 72 game season into a 48 game season. It would also lead to the death of 10% of the drafted players from the leagues first year draft. Otherwise, the baseball season would continue but with very limited attendance with people scared to go outside often, especially for something seen as nothing more than a silly game to watch.

National Championship League (as of 1868 season):
New York Metropolitans
Boston Fighting Irish
Philadelphia Quakers
Chicago White Stockings
Detroit Wolverines
Cleveland Barons

Rules for the dynasty:
Fantasy Draft as beginning of save
1 out of every 10 players is removed from the game due to the “Spotted Plague”
That’s it for now…
