I just finished watching the game back on MLB.tv's free weekend.
I think that kinda game is what baseball's really about

I don't know if the rest of the baseball world knows this, but a couple years ago Carrasco and Trevor Bauer came up with a unique way to kill time on days when they weren't starting.
If the team was winning, they would take a baseball and modify it to make it look like one of their teammates. They would cut open the cover, fluff the threads out to make hair, and draw eyes and facial features on the baseball. The results were hilariously accurate. I don't know what they eventually did with the baseballs, but I thought it would have been great to auction them off for charity.

Jaw drop, eye shooting out of their sockets, the whole works. (Gaylord had a local peanut farm and was dropping off a shipment @ the store). I was so excited, begged him to stay so I could run back home & find something for him to sign. Flew on my bike home like it ran on nitro. Bat? No, stupid thing for a pitcher to sign. Glove? No, I only have the one and need it to play. Didn't have a baseball cause mom didn't want me to get hurt. She only allowed us to play w/tennis balls (Oy vey!) Mom was wondering why I was so frantic. Jetted back to the store w/a school notebook and got him to sign it. Showed it off to my friends @ school. And, of course, mom threw it away when the school year ended. But that is the only time I ever met a true Major Leaguer.

No. What got me was that they were neck & neck w/the O's for worst in the AL.

Weird situation in yesterday's Jays-Rays game. Runners on 1st and 2nd, 2 outs. Batter laces a line drive fair down the 3rd base line. After a bounce it sliced into foul territory, hit the wall and caromed back into fair territory to the fielder who was running over to get it. He got his glove on it and tried to flip it to his throwing hand but he bungled it and managed to knock it over the wall into the stands in foul territory.
They ruled it a ground rule double and the runner from 1st had to stay at 3rd. This is a ridiculous rule. With 2 outs the runners were off on contact and there was no chance that the guy from first doesn't score easily. I can't help but wonder why outfielders don't do this intentionally. |

Maybe the Mets are under the impression the NL is one of those split season leagues. They are getting ready for the stretch run.

I think Woods Richardson ends up being the best of the two, but he's sooooooo far away right now. It's certainly a trade that's been panned on both sides. It sounds like the rest of the industry's pissed that the Blue Jays didn't get more for Stroman, and nobody can figure out why he went to the Mets. To all those executives with rival clubs who are upset about the return...Perhaps you should've gotten your team to make a better offer for Stroshow. Step up or shut up. Your salty tears are a bit rich right now.

^^^That Tanner Boyle reference is epic!
So what are we thinking with the trades? Greinke to Astros...Cole, Verlander, Greinke. Makes for some interesting talk at the water cooler. Not sure about the Castellanos trade to the Cubbies. That one seemed "iffy." Thoughts? Opinions? |

As an Astros fan, I'm not sure I like giving up 4 top prospects for the right to an excellent but aging pitcher's 2.4 seasons of work at over $20 million per. It certainly means Cole will go elsewhere this offseason. But I don't hate the deal, and it makes sense to make the most of your window.
Where the real mistake lay was in not offering Charlie Morton a freaking qualifying offer a few months ago.

The wild card was supposed to keep things interesting for fans of teams not going to win the division. The D-Backs are only 3.5 games out of the postseason. So why trade an ace? I have nothing good to say about a team that sacrifices the playoffs for dollars.
You're used to teams picking up a name starter @ this time. You aren't expecting teams in the position of the Mets & Reds landing them.
