How to set up a historical league with all new players being fictional?

I am trying to figure out how to set up a league where I start in a certain year (say 1957) and import the complete history of baseball up to that point. The starting point of those teams would be the historical rosters of each team. But moving forward, all new players drafted into the game would be fictional.

So, Willie McCovey and Orlando Cepeda would be part of this universe, as they were in the minors in 1957, but Juan Marichal and Gaylord Perry would not as they were not part of the 1957 initial player load. All new player drafts from that point forward would only be fictional players. Over the next several years, the league would gradually shift from mostly historical players to mostly fictional players until eventually all of the historical players retire.

The idea is to have a league made up of fictional players, but to be able to have those fictional players chase the historical records that were in place up to that point in time.

Is this possible?

I think I figured it out. First you need to uncheck the option "Automatically import historical rookies" on the Historical tab under "League Settings" to keep the new historical player from coming in. But then you also need to uncheck "Disable automatic creation of free agents and fictional draft class" to allow new fictional players to be added.

Does this seem correct?

I haven't tried to test it, but that ought to work.

The best way to try out new ideas is to run a few seasons on auto-play and see whether what happens is what you were hoping for.
