If I just let this play out past the first season, it should be OK, shouldn't it? I don't have a problem with no free agent movement in the first year.

I am so impressed by all the work that went into this. This truly is a quickstart, with the teams ready to roll, stadiums all set, very deep minors, and all the college feeder leagues.

After just five games, I'm already trying to figure out how to deal one of the best HR hitters in the game because he's made four errors at 1b already.

Thanks again! I believe the stats are going to be close to 1900's so 4 errors might be good defensively? I haven't specifically looked at how that first year works with the contracts and I believe it will matter if they are just 1-year contracts or if they are all starting out in their first year of team control. I haven't seen any long-term problems with the league running out of money so it should get fixed on its own at some point.

NAME SCANDAL ROCKS LEAGUE!

In shocking news far overshadowing opening day in 1901, a massive conspiracy to hide the identities of Dominican and Cuban players was uncovered. At the center of it was last year's top prospect, formerly known as Apsuhomya Prusko. His real name is Yago Pimentel and there are some who believe that his current UCL injury, causing him to miss the entire season, is not an accident.

In total, over 140 Dominican and Cuban players were found to be mixed up in this scandal. Also of note was the pitcher who threw the first pitch in league history, Louis-Alexandre Darger, now known as Bernaldino Loma.

1901 Top Prospects

The 1901 Top 100 Prospect List is out, led by Tampa Bay's Nate Verity, the 4th overall pick in last year's draft. The top 9 are all batters and the top pitcher is Bulgarian Eleneki Gumlaw, selected 30th in the 1900 draft by the Baltimore Orioles.

*I would like to format these top prospect lists differently in the future.

Ah, I was considering trying one of these a year ago for a fictional setting, but had another year long project get in the way last year.

How many players are you creating for each HS team?

With MLB and 7 levels of minors, you will probably have to run a full 1200 player draft each year, and thus, you'll have to make 1200 new players per year.

Considering that some of these kids will be golden boys, and some will be crap, you'll probably want more than that so better players can separate themselves from the chaff that get weeded out at the HS and College level before professional.

So to keep more players through the leagues:
1. Set an Age Minimum for the MLB. This will keep the MLB from grabbing the younglings before some College.
2. Drop the number of Minor Leagues to 3 levels. This should cut the number of players needed for the draft in half, meaning more stick around in College and less move directly from HS.
3. Greatly increase the number of players going through the HS system. Most HS teams are made of Seniors, Juniors, and have only the occasional superstar Freshman or Sophomore, when not using them for benchwarmer/game experience.
4. Increase the number of injuries, substitutions, and relievers both the HS and College teams use. This will increase the chance that normally benched feeder players get to play and help to separate the good and bad players.
5. Increase the number of HS teams (Not what you desire)
6. Allow the game to create Free Agents for College and Pros (It's not what you desire either, but will assure that created players will have some level of competence when selected to a team).

I really got a lot out of this quick reference for HS->College->Pro numbers. It is probably the most insightful site concerning the number of players I would need to make: http://www.hsbaseballweb.com/probability.htm .

For reference, I was going to do an average of 10 new players per HS team each year, with 256 HS teams, 100 College teams, feeding 64 Professional Teams in a Three Tier Promotion/Relegation Ladder (Because my fictional nation's national sport was Soccer, the League's professional teams would match up with the soccer clubs and keep the same pro/rel format). I really wanted to get close to the percent of players that traveled from one league to the next.

1901 Draft Top 100

It's 1901 Draft Pool Announcement time! LF Jonathan Burleson of the Washington Huskies is the number one draft prospect and LHP Joe Herberholz (Buford Wolves, GHSA) is the overall top high schooler.

Last year, Herberholz finished second in the pitcher of the year voting, while Burleson was an NCAA All-Star and the best hitting left fielder. It remains to be seen what, if any awards they will win this year.

All of the free agents that are draft-eligible this year are players who failed to sign from the draft in 1900. For those players that are too old to return to college, that's kind of too bad for them. They return the next year and will typically sign. There are some players that will fail to sign but could still go to college (e.g. Mike Southworth). I will be watching out for those players now and manually put them into college instead of having them sit out a year and return to the draft.

1901 MLB Draft

RHP Joe Ramage was selected first overall in the draft by the San Francisco Giants. He was the NCAA Pitcher of the Year in 1900 but finished out of the top 3 this year. His performance hadn't diminished much, but it's Joe Hubbard's show now.

(I'm going to have to make sure that the draft order is correct since the Giants had the 1st pick last year as well. It does appear that this is correct as they had only 61 wins last year.)

Round 1, Pick 1 - San Francisco Giants: SP Joe Ramage, age 21
Round 1, Pick 2 - Baltimore Orioles: LF Jonathan Burleson, age 21
Round 1, Pick 3 - New York Mets: 3B Jonathan Sexton, age 21
Round 1, Pick 4 - Chicago Cubs: SP Joe Herberholz, age 18

Round 1, Pick 9 - Detroit Tigers: SP Tim Cherenfant, age 23
Round 1, Pick 10 - Arizona Diamondbacks: CF Mike Southworth, age 19

After a 3-2 month of October, the Brewers found themselves in a one and done game with the Florida Marlins. Mike Schneider and not Luis Magallanes was on the hill for the Brewers, who promptly lost the game and had all their hopes destroyed.

1901 MLB Playoffs

The Angels defeated the Padres 4 games to 3 in the 1901 World Series. Game 7 was out of reach for much of the game after a 4-run 1st by the Angels. The Padres were able to claw back to a 5-4 deficit in the 6th, but the Angels added runs in the 7th and 8th to seal a 7-4 win.
