Team name lists?

Am running some leagues in commish mode only.

I have the team names set to change occasionally. Problem is, they go into random ridiculousness aka "Houston Ducks", "Philadelphia Blue Wahoos", "Los Angeles Penmen" (what is a penman?) etc.

Is there a list someone has modded that contains decent names?

Or shall I go manually into the text file?

Thanks!

Now it's the "Memphis Samurai". Please help.

Wkipedia is good to find team names. Just google baseball, football, basketball ,hockey etc leagues and most of them have a complete team listing.

Also the current ABA(American Basketball Association-is it still around) has teams come and go faster than anything possible. This produces a lot of team names.

We need a sticky list of team names on OOTP19 rather than go through pages and pages of team uniforms.

Also checkout the website-Fun While It Lasted.

It has a listing of many sports leagues that I never knew existed.

The biggest challenge with team nicknames is that it's not always the nickname itself being lame. It's just a certain combination of city and nickname that the computer can't realistically prevent, e.g. "Memphis Samurai." For example, if you had a team in Japan, "Samurai" might be a perfectly good nickname.

Some nicknames that we take for granted are peculiar taken out of context.

What is an "Astro"? (It comes from Houston and the fact that Houston was the hub of space exploration.)

What is a "Padre"? (It's actually Spanish for "father" and is named for the Spanish Franciscan friars who founded San Diego in 1769.)

There are actual sports franchises or colleges whose nickname is Ducks, Blue Wahoos, and Penmen (Penmen is the mascot for Southern New Hampshire University).

So, your best bet is to just edit the file yourself to take out names you don't like, and replace them with ones you do. Or just do what I do - when the computer generates team names, I keep the ones I like and manually change or move around those I don't.
