Arena League Baseball

This is an attempt at a reboot of league concept I tried in an older version of OOTP. Ive rebuilt the league from scratch with new ideas in the hope that I can create a fast paced, high scoring league to entertain the fans.

Planning has seen 10 teams be awarded the initial franchises.

Welcome to Arena League Baseball; the factsheet.
Every team will play in a Dome on artificial turf.
Field dimensions are standard across the league, with the outfield walls set to 30ft high, with no seating for fans in those areas.
Rosters are limited to 22 players.
There will be 2 divisions of 5 teams, the Stars and Stripes Divisions.
The league schedule will be 90 games, using a balanced format.
4 teams will advance to the playoffs, facing off in a 'One Game Shootout' to then reach the 'best of 3' Arena Super Series.

Season 1

Indoor Baseball Proves a 'Hit'

The debut season of Arena Baseball caught the imagination of baseball fans all round the nation, not just those lucky enough to have a franchise grace their doorstep.

Attendances surged on opening day and each team would post an average of over 3000 per game, as the league posted well over 50% ticket sales for each game. New Orleans and Las Vegas would both break the 200,000 mark for the season, proving a huge uptake for the baseball starved cities.

With success flowing off the field, the all important product on the artificial diamonds had to live up to the 'fun, fast and frantic' billing. If people wanted to watch baseball, then the MLB is the hot ticket... the ALB had to be different and good!

Fortunately an array of talented individuals would don the jerseys of the various franchises, putting on clinics in all aspects as hitters adjusted to the indoor conditions, smaller diamonds and monster outfield walls. Whilst pitchers learned to thrive in fast paced, high scoring situations, relying on punching out as many hitters as they could.

Opening Day!

Expectations were high and the 5 match ups to ignite the season didn't disappoint. 4 of the games saw the teams combine for 30 hits, the Gamblers would win from the leagues first walk-off bomb via Ryan Capone, Vancouver 'Expressed their way to a win thanks to a 9 run 5th and Portland dominated their hosts, winning 12-2 at Birmingham.

Race for 1st Place!

With 4 playoff spots up for grabs, winning had to come fast and it would be the Showboats from New Orleans who got on that train early, topping the Stripes Division going wire to wire, losing just 4 times in February as they wound up claiming the leagues best record with 61 wins, holding a mammoth 19 game gap over their division.

Things proved closer in the Stars Division as Las Vegas and Sacramento diced things out with the Sluggers just unable to get over the hump, as the Gamblers made sure they raced into the One Game Shootout, with the Sluggers comfortable as one of the leagues Wildcard placings.

Mavericks or Express..

The real race in the league would be for the final playoff spot as with the rest of the Stripes Divison winding up with losing records, both Vancouver and Portland fought it out for the right to play post-season baseball.

At 41-40 the teams were tied heading into May and their final 3 series of the year. The early shots saw Portland go 2 games clear, sweeping the Blaze whilst Vancouver took just 1 game from the Racers in Louisville. Things swung back toward the Express in the next set, as they took 2 from Birmingham whilst Portland relied on a rubber win in Vegas to keep them just ahead of their Canadian rivals.

With both teams at home for their finales and with the Mavericks 1 game up, it was theirs to lose... which they did! The Flyers who have generally been pathetic would go to Portland and sweep the Mavericks, dead balling them 4-1 in the final game. Flip that to Vancouver who went to town on LA racking up 31 runs and a shot at reaching the Arena Super Series.

Season 1

Superstars are Born!

With the teams chasing accolades as a collective, it would be the players that wrote all the headlines, setting records and marks for those following them to chase in future years.

Home Run King!

The obvious race that took the fans interest would be how many long balls could a player hit in one season. Some talked about 100, others believed that just beating the MLB single season record would be enough... however with the league living up to its hype in many areas, the Home Run race would fall shy as just one man topped 40 dingers, that being Vancouvers Jonathan Stryker who clubbed 47, driving in 119 RBIs.

Batters take Stage...

Other notable efforts at the plate saw 4 men hit over .500 for the year, led by John York of the Sluggers with a slash of .532/.557/.921. Fellow Slugger' Joey Napier topped the RBI chart with 142, as he coupled that with a mammoth 67 stolen bags as the Sluggers led the way with their offensive threat.

Tough times on the Mound!

With everyone and anyone swinging and hitting, the pitchers had to take their licks and the standards set in the MLB would not convey into Indoor Baseball.

2 pitchers wound up with a sub 6.00ERA, as Brian Fields (5.34) of the Rebels and New Orleans Dominican 'ace Diego Siqueiros (5.35) topped that chart. Siqueiros would also lead the Strikeout chart, racking up a lofty 296 (4 shy of the magic 300), chased hard by Sacramento's Hoezee (292) and Monreal of the division winning Gamblers.

The value of a Bullpen?

Although there were only 4 complete games pitched in the league, the value of the bullpen still posed many questions, as just 3 pitchers managed double digits in saves (Miguel Salas, NO, 13) led the way.

Only Las Vegas had a team bullpen ERA of under 10.00, but there was still room for a pair of relievers to K' over 200 hitters and the Mavericks Mauricio Portillo tied the league lead for 10 wins, all of his coming from relief outings.

Teams will slowly but surely work out their best approach in the coming years, but for now, with just 4 starters the norm, carrying a smaller bullpen may be the route to take.

Season 1

Playoff Baseball!

One Game Shootout:

The dreaded round where anything can happen to anyone... the 61 win Showboats are in the same 'boat' as the last day qualifying Vancouver Express. 9 innings of ball, winner advances, loser licks their wounds.

New Orleans and Las Vegas earned the privilege of hosting the fixtures, with the Showboats taking on the aforementioned Vancouver, whilst Las Vegas were paired with Sacramento, a team they diced with in the Stars Division race.

Vancouver Express @ New Orleans Showboats

The Showboats held a slight advantage in the regular season with a 5-4 record, but that mattered little as going into the bottom of the 3rd, they trailed 4-1 to the Express.

Vancouver started with a bang as 3 solo blasts had them chasing NO starter Mike Templeton from the mound, as he gave up 10 hits and 4 runs. However the Showboats didnt win 61 games via luck and they soon tied the scores in the same inning, before going on to clinch a 10-6 win thanks to a 4 run spurt in the 7th.

Sacramento Sluggers @ Las Vegas Gamblers

If their Division race hit the headlines at times, their matchup in the OGS re-wrote them as the Gamblers rolled the dice and came up trumps as a 'lucky 7' runs in the 7th had the Sluggers dreaming of a spot in the Super Series.

The Gamblers had trailed early but a 6 run glut in the 4th, headed up by Ryan Capone had put them well in command. Something they held onto until the 7th, when Sacramento went around their lineup playing small ball to bring home 7 runners and take a 11-10 lead.

That lead lasted just 1 inning, as the Gamblers bounced back with 3 runs of their own to seal the deal 13-11 and give us a Super Series between the 2 division winners.

Not that big to be fair, 200 line and 225 center. I was thinking that the thing needs to fit in a dome, although there are no seating areas in the outfield (in my imagination) I still didnt want full size ballparks with a roof... something more subtle than that.

Season 1

Showboats Sail Away as Champs!

The first ever Arena Super Series would head to New Orleans as the leagues best team in the regular season would sweep their way to success, defeating the Gamblers 2 zip.

With everyone expecting a high scoring encounter, the series would be decided on a squeaker, with the pitchers getting the upperhand as NO edged it 3-2.

Game 1 saw the Showboats deal the Gamblers a bad hand, so when Elmo Pessotto came to the mound and put on a 16K clinic, the Series was only headed in one direction.

Las Vegas delighted their fans with their division win and run to the Super Series, but it wasnt to be and the Showboats stole it all in deserved fashion.

The Arena Super Series MVP award went to the Showboats Cory Watkins. The outfielder who clubbed 31HR in the regular season, came up trumps in the Super Series with dingers in both outings, going 4-5 and 3-4 as he kept the Showboats offense ticking over.

Season 2

Bigger and Better!

If the Arena version of Baseball failed to grab the attention of the public in its debut season, it certainly made up for that in year 2 as attendances soared, player salaries rose and the standard matured with TV viewings figures backing up said efforts.

4 teams would break the 200,000 mark for attendance this year, with LA just shy of that number. With the added revenue flowing into the game, teams opened up their wallets, signing new talent from the Caribbean, notably Rey Delgadillo, a 24 year old Dominican who the Racers made the highest player in the league with a huge $260,000 deal.

That opened the floodgates as Las Vegas wanted more success, signing 2 players to deals in excess of $250,000 thus taking their team payroll to just under $2,000,000.. more than double that of the Sluggers and ironically New Orleans!

Its good to be Home!

If there is one thing that Arena Baseball has guaranteed is that teams like playing infront of their own fans. Not one team managed to post a winning record on the road, let alone anywhere near .500. This translated into just a 10 game difference between 1st and last as all 10 teams had their eye on post-season Baseball.

Dont bet against it!

With the Gamblers spending big, they had to hit their number and they managed just that, winning 50 games and edging both Portland and LA to their 2nd straight division crown.

Birmingham would win the same amount in the Stripes Division, just about pulling clear of defending Champs' New Orleans who fell back sharply to just 48 wins but still enough to place in a Wildcard slot.

All or Nothing...

Once again the race for the final Wildcard slot came down to the wire, this time it was literally an 'All-In' occasion as both the Gunslingers and Mavericks finished at 46-44, meaning a One Game Shootout, before the actual One Game Shootout!

LA had home advantage for this showcase affair and it was an absolute doozie that had the fans glued to their seats (literally... for hours!) as the teams shared a league high 70 hits, and an incredible 21 run 10th inning as Los Angeles won out 27-26 in extras.

Dylan Alongi of LA would drive in 7 runs, hitting 2HR and stating "I felt good in the batter's box today, I had confidence in my swing and knew that it was there and that I could get the job done."

Playoff Baseball!

One Game Shootout

It was the matchup we all wanted but maybe a round too soon, the Gamblers and their big chequebook in a revenge attack on the Showboats, whose frugal efforts as reigning Champs had seen them lose a bit of momentum in their regular season campaign.

New Orleans Showboats @ Las Vegas Gamblers

Vegas would host their foe as Roulette Park soldout quicker than a Britney concert. New Orleans would push and push, led by an 11K outing from Diego Siqueiros as he continued to etch his name into Arena Baseball legend.

Yet when he left the mound at the end of the 5th with the Showboats ahead, the Showboats bullpen would crack and it would be DiBenedetto who coughed up the game, Vegas put on 6 runs in the 6th and that would be more than enough to do the job.

Los Angeles Gunslingers @ Birmingham Blast

After their heroics in the craziest of games with Portland, the Gunslingers travelled to Birmingham to take on the Blast. Once again the bats became hot, with pitchers from both sides taking a shelling.

Birmingham looked to have sealed the deal as their 5 run burst across the 7th and 8th innings appeared to have killed off LA, who looked beaten going into the final inning.

However you write off the Gunslingers at your peril, 3 further runs in the top of the final inning put them back in charge as the Blasts closer Nelson Sanchez gave up a pair of jacks and thus the Blasts season. In response Taiwanese lefty Wei-Quo Zeng pitched an immaculate 1-2-3 9th to get the save and advance LA to the Super Series.

Season 2

Las Vegas Deal; Gunslingers shoot them down!

Heartbreak is the best way to describe it, a deadening silence in Roulette Park bar the celebrations of the visiting team saw the season end with the Gamblers on the wrong end of a pair of home losses in the Super Series.

With road wins hard to come by, it was a little surprising that LA would clinch the series in the Gamblers backyard, but their convincing 8-1 romp was more than deserving enough of the rewards they got.

Game 1 saw LA beat the Gamblers 5-1 as Jose Monreal pitched a gem thru 7 innings, striking out 16 and holding the Gamblers vaunted offense to just 1 run.

Game 2 more than made up for it in terms of offense as the Gamblers got their bats working once more as Superstars Luis Abad and Ryan Capone combined for 5RBIs as the Gunslingers felt the heat of their hosts. Las Vegas now had the upper hand, 1 game left, in Vegas... it was theirs too lose.

Alas those putting money on a Vegas line would be losers and heavy ones at that. The Gamblers never got going and LA once again saw Dylan Alongi come up big as he hit a 3 run moonshot to help his team take a winning lead.

Once again LA got a quality start from their pitching staff with Schneider striking out 10 across 5IP, with their bullpen combining for a further 9 to clinch the Series!

Big Money; Big Plays!

The value of players in Arena Baseball grew significantly this year as teams decided to pay big in order to bring in talent from overseas and reward those who gambled on taking just a 1 year deal to start their Arena careers. All this combined to improve the product on the field and a challenge to the early records was set.

Consistent Hitting...

Charlotte would put together one of the more explosive offenses this year as Bubba Torgeson (.520) and BJ Peters (44HR) would see the team lead 2 of the major batting categories this season. If that wasnt enough, Brett Harrah of the Rebels was the only other man to hit more than 40 bombs this year, falling 1 shy of Peters as the potential of their team is one to look out for.

Speed Machine!

One record that did fall this year was Stolen Bases. LA's Emeric Calvina who re-upped and doubled his money the past off-season, would snag 78 bases, coming in at just under 1 per game as his .473OBP almost guaranteed the team having a player in scoring position at some point during that inning!

Pitchers Make their Mark!

With the league continuing to put up bigger numbers at the plate, Pitchers would get their dues this year as a pair of Starters would break the 5.00ERA mark, unsurprisingly both were Gunslingers.

Frank Caplinger posted a 4.15 season going 10-4 with 229Ks in his debut season in the league. Whilst his teammate Ismael Ayala tucked in behind at 4..51, nearly halving his performance from the year before, going 9-3 with 254Ks.

Diego Siqueiros once again lit up the mound, striking out 292 batters as he helped lead the Showboats back to the playoffs, but 2 pitchers went further than that and broke the 300 barrier.

Elmo Pessotto (Siqueiros teammate) managed 300 on the nose, but it was Alcides Nieves, another Dominican arm in the league, who topped the charts with 302.

It was a huge upswing in performance for Nieves, as Birmingham saw their star man go from a 1-10 pitcher with an ERA ballooning over 12.00, to a 302K, 12-5 effort and a 2.0 improvement in his WAR as the Blast took their division.

What do you have park factors on? I made a league of 8 teams with 88 games per year, but my players aren't hitting the ball with nearly the effectiveness that yours are.

Ive rebuilt the league from scratch with new ideas in the hope that I can create a fast paced, high scoring league to entertain the fans. Planning has seen 10 teams be awarded the initial franchises. Welcome to Arena League Baseball; the factsheet. Every team will play in a Dome on artificial turf. Field dimensions are standard across the league, with the outfield walls set to 30ft high, with no seating for fans in those areas. Rosters are limited to 22 players. There will be 2 divisions of 5 teams, the Stars and Stripes Divisions. The league schedule will be 90 games, using a balanced format. 4 teams will advance to the playoffs, facing off in a 'One Game Shootout' to then reach the 'best of 3' Arena Super Series. bestbrother Major Leagues Join Date: Dec 2015 Posts: 365	Season 1 Indoor Baseball Proves a 'Hit' The debut season of Arena Baseball caught the imagination of baseball fans all round the nation, not just those lucky enough to have a franchise grace their doorstep. Attendances surged on opening day and each team would post an average of over 3000 per game, as the league posted well over 50% ticket sales for each game. New Orleans and Las Vegas would both break the 200,000 mark for the season, proving a huge uptake for the baseball starved cities. With success flowing off the field, the all important product on the artificial diamonds had to live up to the 'fun, fast and frantic' billing. If people wanted to watch baseball, then the MLB is the hot ticket... the ALB had to be different and good! Fortunately an array of talented individuals would don the jerseys of the various franchises, putting on clinics in all aspects as hitters adjusted to the indoor conditions, smaller diamonds and monster outfield walls. Whilst pitchers learned to thrive in fast paced, high scoring situations, relying on punching out as many hitters as they could. *Opening Day!* Expectations were high and the 5 match ups to ignite the season didn't disappoint. 4 of the games saw the teams combine for 30 hits, the Gamblers would win from the leagues first walk-off bomb via Ryan Capone, Vancouver 'Expressed their way to a win thanks to a 9 run 5th and Portland dominated their hosts, winning 12-2 at Birmingham. *Race for 1st Place!* With 4 playoff spots up for grabs, winning had to come fast and it would be the Showboats from New Orleans who got on that train early, topping the Stripes Division going wire to wire, losing just 4 times in February as they wound up claiming the leagues best record with 61 wins, holding a mammoth 19 game gap over their division. Things proved closer in the Stars Division as Las Vegas and Sacramento diced things out with the Sluggers just unable to get over the hump, as the Gamblers made sure they raced into the One Game Shootout, with the Sluggers comfortable as one of the leagues Wildcard placings. *Mavericks or Express..* The real race in the league would be for the final playoff spot as with the rest of the Stripes Divison winding up with losing records, both Vancouver and Portland fought it out for the right to play post-season baseball. At 41-40 the teams were tied heading into May and their final 3 series of the year. The early shots saw Portland go 2 games clear, sweeping the Blaze whilst Vancouver took just 1 game from the Racers in Louisville. Things swung back toward the Express in the next set, as they took 2 from Birmingham whilst Portland relied on a rubber win in Vegas to keep them just ahead of their Canadian rivals. With both teams at home for their finales and with the Mavericks 1 game up, it was theirs to lose... which they did! The Flyers who have generally been pathetic would go to Portland and sweep the Mavericks, dead balling them 4-1 in the final game. Flip that to Vancouver who went to town on LA racking up 31 runs and a shot at reaching the Arena Super Series. With the teams chasing accolades as a collective, it would be the players that wrote all the headlines, setting records and marks for those following them to chase in future years. *Home Run King!* The obvious race that took the fans interest would be how many long balls could a player hit in one season. Some talked about 100, others believed that just beating the MLB single season record would be enough... however with the league living up to its hype in many areas, the Home Run race would fall shy as just one man topped 40 dingers, that being Vancouvers Jonathan Stryker who clubbed 47, driving in 119 RBIs. *Batters take Stage...* Other notable efforts at the plate saw 4 men hit over .500 for the year, led by John York of the Sluggers with a slash of .532/.557/.921. Fellow Slugger' Joey Napier topped the RBI chart with 142, as he coupled that with a mammoth 67 stolen bags as the Sluggers led the way with their offensive threat. Siqueiros would also lead the Strikeout chart, racking up a lofty 296 (4 shy of the magic 300), chased hard by Sacramento's Hoezee (292) and Monreal of the division winning Gamblers. *The value of a Bullpen?* Although there were only 4 complete games pitched in the league, the value of the bullpen still posed many questions, as just 3 pitchers managed double digits in saves (Miguel Salas, NO, 13) led the way. Only Las Vegas had a team bullpen ERA of under 10.00, but there was still room for a pair of relievers to K' over 200 hitters and the Mavericks Mauricio Portillo tied the league lead for 10 wins, all of his coming from relief outings. Teams will slowly but surely work out their best approach in the coming years, but for now, with just 4 starters the norm, carrying a smaller bullpen may be the route to take. New Orleans and Las Vegas earned the privilege of hosting the fixtures, with the Showboats taking on the aforementioned Vancouver, whilst Las Vegas were paired with Sacramento, a team they diced with in the Stars Division race. Vancouver Express @ New Orleans Showboats The Showboats held a slight advantage in the regular season with a 5-4 record, but that mattered little as going into the bottom of the 3rd, they trailed 4-1 to the Express. Vancouver started with a bang as 3 solo blasts had them chasing NO starter Mike Templeton from the mound, as he gave up 10 hits and 4 runs. However the Showboats didnt win 61 games via luck and they soon tied the scores in the same inning, before going on to clinch a 10-6 win thanks to a 4 run spurt in the 7th. The Gamblers had trailed early but a 6 run glut in the 4th, headed up by Ryan Capone had put them well in command. Something they held onto until the 7th, when Sacramento went around their lineup playing small ball to bring home 7 runners and take a 11-10 lead. That lead lasted just 1 inning, as the Gamblers bounced back with 3 runs of their own to seal the deal 13-11 and give us a Super Series between the 2 division winners. The first ever Arena Super Series would head to New Orleans as the leagues best team in the regular season would sweep their way to success, defeating the Gamblers 2 zip. With everyone expecting a high scoring encounter, the series would be decided on a squeaker, with the pitchers getting the upperhand as NO edged it 3-2. Game 1 saw the Showboats deal the Gamblers a bad hand, so when Elmo Pessotto came to the mound and put on a 16K clinic, the Series was only headed in one direction. Las Vegas delighted their fans with their division win and run to the Super Series, but it wasnt to be and the Showboats stole it all in deserved fashion. The Arena Super Series MVP award went to the Showboats Cory Watkins. The outfielder who clubbed 31HR in the regular season, came up trumps in the Super Series with dingers in both outings, going 4-5 and 3-4 as he kept the Showboats offense ticking over. If the Arena version of Baseball failed to grab the attention of the public in its debut season, it certainly made up for that in year 2 as attendances soared, player salaries rose and the standard matured with TV viewings figures backing up said efforts. 4 teams would break the 200,000 mark for attendance this year, with LA just shy of that number. With the added revenue flowing into the game, teams opened up their wallets, signing new talent from the Caribbean, notably Rey Delgadillo, a 24 year old Dominican who the Racers made the highest player in the league with a huge $260,000 deal. That opened the floodgates as Las Vegas wanted more success, signing 2 players to deals in excess of $250,000 thus taking their team payroll to just under $2,000,000.. more than double that of the Sluggers and ironically New Orleans! *Its good to be Home!* If there is one thing that Arena Baseball has guaranteed is that teams like playing infront of their own fans. Not one team managed to post a winning record on the road, let alone anywhere near .500. This translated into just a 10 game difference between 1st and last as all 10 teams had their eye on post-season Baseball. *Dont bet against it!* With the Gamblers spending big, they had to hit their number and they managed just that, winning 50 games and edging both Portland and LA to their 2nd straight division crown. Birmingham would win the same amount in the Stripes Division, just about pulling clear of defending Champs' New Orleans who fell back sharply to just 48 wins but still enough to place in a Wildcard slot. *All or Nothing...* Once again the race for the final Wildcard slot came down to the wire, this time it was literally an 'All-In' occasion as both the Gunslingers and Mavericks finished at 46-44, meaning a One Game Shootout, before the actual One Game Shootout! LA had home advantage for this showcase affair and it was an absolute doozie that had the fans glued to their seats (literally... for hours!) as the teams shared a league high 70 hits, and an incredible 21 run 10th inning as Los Angeles won out 27-26 in extras. Dylan Alongi of LA would drive in 7 runs, hitting 2HR and stating "I felt good in the batter's box today, I had confidence in my swing and knew that it was there and that I could get the job done." New Orleans Showboats @ Las Vegas Gamblers Vegas would host their foe as Roulette Park soldout quicker than a Britney concert. New Orleans would push and push, led by an 11K outing from Diego Siqueiros as he continued to etch his name into Arena Baseball legend. Yet when he left the mound at the end of the 5th with the Showboats ahead, the Showboats bullpen would crack and it would be DiBenedetto who coughed up the game, Vegas put on 6 runs in the 6th and that would be more than enough to do the job. Once again the bats became hot, with pitchers from both sides taking a shelling. Birmingham looked to have sealed the deal as their 5 run burst across the 7th and 8th innings appeared to have killed off LA, who looked beaten going into the final inning. However you write off the Gunslingers at your peril, 3 further runs in the top of the final inning put them back in charge as the Blasts closer Nelson Sanchez gave up a pair of jacks and thus the Blasts season. In response Taiwanese lefty Wei-Quo Zeng pitched an immaculate 1-2-3 9th to get the save and advance LA to the Super Series. Heartbreak is the best way to describe it, a deadening silence in Roulette Park bar the celebrations of the visiting team saw the season end with the Gamblers on the wrong end of a pair of home losses in the Super Series. With road wins hard to come by, it was a little surprising that LA would clinch the series in the Gamblers backyard, but their convincing 8-1 romp was more than deserving enough of the rewards they got. Game 1 saw LA beat the Gamblers 5-1 as Jose Monreal pitched a gem thru 7 innings, striking out 16 and holding the Gamblers vaunted offense to just 1 run. Las Vegas now had the upper hand, 1 game left, in Vegas... it was theirs too lose. The Gamblers never got going and LA once again saw Dylan Alongi come up big as he hit a 3 run moonshot to help his team take a winning lead. Once again LA got a quality start from their pitching staff with Schneider striking out 10 across 5IP, with their bullpen combining for a further 9 to clinch the Series! The value of players in Arena Baseball grew significantly this year as teams decided to pay big in order to bring in talent from overseas and reward those who gambled on taking just a 1 year deal to start their Arena careers. All this combined to improve the product on the field and a challenge to the early records was set. *Consistent Hitting...* Charlotte would put together one of the more explosive offenses this year as Bubba Torgeson (.520) and BJ Peters (44HR) would see the team lead 2 of the major batting categories this season. If that wasnt enough, Brett Harrah of the Rebels was the only other man to hit more than 40 bombs this year, falling 1 shy of Peters as the potential of their team is one to look out for. *Speed Machine!* One record that did fall this year was Stolen Bases. LA's Emeric Calvina who re-upped and doubled his money the past off-season, would snag 78 bases, coming in at just under 1 per game as his .473OBP almost guaranteed the team having a player in scoring position at some point during that inning! Frank Caplinger posted a 4.15 season going 10-4 with 229Ks in his debut season in the league. Whilst his teammate Ismael Ayala tucked in behind at 4..51, nearly halving his performance from the year before, going 9-3 with 254Ks. *Sttttttttt... rike!* Diego Siqueiros once again lit up the mound, striking out 292 batters as he helped lead the Showboats back to the playoffs, but 2 pitchers went further than that and broke the 300 barrier. Elmo Pessotto (Siqueiros teammate) managed 300 on the nose, but it was Alcides Nieves, another Dominican arm in the league, who topped the charts with 302. It was a huge upswing in performance for Nieves, as Birmingham saw their star man go from a 1-10 pitcher with an ERA ballooning over 12.00, to a 302K, 12-5 effort and a 2.0 improvement in his WAR as the Blast took their division.
