Working your way up
So I really don't know much past the NHL and AHL. I'm wanting to creak a GM and work my way up to the NHL. What would be a good league to start with? I wanna start somewhere in North America. Would the OHL be a good place to start? Could someone rank the North American leagues for me? Thanks.

The ECHL or the CHL leagues (OHL, WHL, and QMJHL) are generally the simplest route; you can typically get an AHL job after that, then move to the NHL. The low-level pro leagues (SPHL, LNAH, FHL) are tougher; they'll usually require another step (like to the ECHL) along the way, and the LNAH far enough down that it may need another move first, like working in a mid-level European league like Norway or Denmark, in order to get the reputation to get ECHL offers. The human player has a slight advantage when it comes to getting hired, so you can occasionally skip steps if you're doing very well, but it depends heavily on what jobs come open at higher levels.

Jeff, does nationality have a role, both for AI and Human managers?

GM's and coaches (including human GM's) from a different country than the team are at a slight disadvantage when being considered for a job; if they're from a different continent the disadvantage is larger. If the team has a particular preferred region, candidates from that region get an advantage dependent on the strength of the preference.
