October 25th, 1884 - Blues tie Series with a 6-1 Victory

October 25th, 1884 - Sam Moffet outdueled White Stockings pitcher Larry Corcoran to keep the Blues hopes alive for a 4th straight trip to the World Series. Corcoran didn't have the same stuff as he did in game 1, and the Blues took advantage. The series now moves to Chicago for game 3.

October 26th, 1884 - Athletics Win ACS, Advance to World Series

October 26th, 1884 - St. Louis started the game off on the wrong foot when Sadie Houck reached first base on a groundball error. Blues pitcher Henry Boyle then threw 2 consecutive wild pitches, advancing Houck to third base. Houck then scored on a base hit by Harry Stovey. The A's scored 1 more run in the first, giving Bobby Mathews a 2-0 lead. Mathews allowed the home team Maroons only 6 hits, and the final score was 6-1.

October 28th, 1884 - Athletics Bench SP Billy Taylor for World Series

October 28th, 1884 - The Philadelphia Athletics have announced that Billy Henry Taylor (7.24 ERA) will not be pitching in Game 2 of the World Series. What they have not done, is say whether they will be going with Bobby Mathews, or instead using emergency starting pitcher Charlie Hilsey (2-4, 4 Saves, 4.09 ERA).

"It's going to be a game day decision," said Philly manager Lon Knight, "We'll have to see how Bobby feels, and see how Charlie is looking. All I can say for certain is that Billy won't be starting."

October 29th, 1884 - Mathews Strikes Out 19, Athletics Win Game 1

October 29th, 1884 - Bobby Mathews was Bobby Mathews vs. the White Stockings, and after striking out 19, the Philadelphia Athletics have won game 1 of the World Series by a score of 5-2. In the top of third, Mathews got out of big jam when the White Stockings loaded the bases with 1 out. It took a force out throw to home, but Chicago failed to score. Game 2 is tomorrow, and the Athletics on paper have said that Charlie Hilsey will be their starter, but we'll have to see on game day if they remain true to that.
Mathews set an American Association playoff record with his 19 K's.

October 30th, 1884 - Hilsey to Start World Series Game 2 for Athletics

October 30th, 1884 - Its officially game day for game 2 of the 1884 World Series, and the Philadelphia Athletics have announced that Charlie Hilsey will get the start, and not Bobby Mathews. Like they've done all season, the White Stockings are marching out their workhorse Larry Corcoran to pitch for the second day in a row.
"I could start Bobby," said A's manager Lon Knight, "but I prefer a fresh arm to try and win. And heaven forbid, if necessary, we can play game 3 with Bobby near 100%."

November 1st, 1884 - Mathews Delivers, Athletics Win 1884 World Series!

November 1st, 1884 - The White Stockings scored 2 runs in the first inning, but after that Bobby Mathews did not allow another baserunner to cross Homeplate, and the Philadelphia Athletics won game 3 by a score of 3-2. The win marked Bobby Mathews second Championship, having won with the Providence Grays in 1879. It was however his first World Series win, and it was also the Athletics first World Series win, but their 4th championship.
The win also marked the first time that the American Association has won a World Series. In the end, Lon Knight's gambit paid off. By resting Mathews for game 3, he was able to outduel Larry Corcoran. Congratulations to the Philadelphia Athletics!

January 3rd, 1885 - Cleveland Blues Disband

January 3rd, 1885 - Despite having a wildly successful start to their franchise, the Cleveland Blues have announced that they are releasing their players and are preparing to disband. Cleveland fans are in shock, and it has certainly not been a good off-season for the state of Ohio.
Here's a look at their franchise history:

January 15th, 1885 - Union Association Folds!

January 15th, 1885 - The Union Association held a winter meeting today, and only the Kansas City Cowboys and the Milwaukee Brewers showed up. The attendance was evidence enough to show the poor state of the UA, and league officials had no choice but to announce the dissolution of the league. After only 1 season, the Union Association is no more.

What's the worst team you saw so far?
1885-1889 are fairly easy but be prepared for 1890.

Well that's debatable but I'm going to go with the 1876-1877 Louisville Grays, based on number of games played and winning percentage.

I think thats got mine beat. I believe the Pittsburgh went 30-108 or me in 1890. Which is weird since they won it all in 1889.

It takes some work but its enjoyable to see the history unfolding with correct teams and players.

My computer died, and I've gotten a new one. Ive yet to attempt to retrieve my files off the old hard drive, though I believe it will be possible. Either way, I'll be taking an OOTP break for a while. I splurged this time and got a real gaming computer, so Ive been playing several games that I couldn't before. I do plan to eventually return to this thread, however.
