Interested in a Couple of These Guys ...
... I, too, would be interested in Tom McCormick, assuming we are talking about the Irish WW champion who was killed in WW I -- another fighter not on MH's list I'm interested in (perhaps MH has him from somewhere already) is Mick King, an Australian MW title claimant whose career started in 1911. (sorry don't know how to retrieve boxrec numbers)
Anyone with TBDX files with ratings for either of these boxers, please post them here. |

These Two Guys Are Listed as Champions ...
... in my Ring Record Book from about 25 years ago. They are about the only ones from that era I haven't found ratings for, either in the game, cornerwork, or posted here on this board.

It looks like Dean is MIA .... anyone else want to take a stab at the above list for me ... I've got a month left. I'll end up making them but I put very little scientific effort into it, so if any of the real file makers care to take them on I would appreciate it.

Quick note ... when I look for new guys to bring into my uni (I like at least 4 per weight class every year) I will just go through boxrec on guys currently in my uni and look at guys they fought. So I know little or nothing about these guys nor do I usually have a picture.

Working on two of these guys ...
... not having heard from DJ, I am going ahead and started working on rating the two guys I am most interested (Mick King and Tom McCormick) and will post them when done, probably in a week or two, and I will look at the other guys on mh's list, too. I also saw McCormick (I assume it's the same one, since I don't know how to retrieve those five-digit BoxRec numbers from the site) on Chris Conn's most recent (Photos Without Files thread) list so maybe someone else will post him there as well.

Thanks JC ... I will rate these guys at the end of my year and post them but all I do is go by their boxrec page and just figure out what overall I think they should be at ... I don't do any testing or anything with them.

thanks for posting Mick King
thanks, Vistaman for posting Mick King who is one the guys I've been interested in for when his year-start (1912) rolls around in my uni in another month or so. I am curious though why you have him rated a 3 overall, because in my working file I had him tentatively pegged alot a higher, around an 8, after all he did beat some guys like Christie and Billy Murray (both 8s in my uni) as well as taking 1 of 3 bouts from Jeff Smith (rated 10). Of course, he had alot of less than stellar outings as well, all of which makes him a bit difficult to rate. I have had similar issues with ratings of other guys who held titles during the same time period, notably LW Jimmy Britt and WW Honey Mellody, guys who just haven't made it to the top as they did in real life. Of course, this probably illustrates the problem of rating guys who noone has seen in real life since the time period covered (early 20th Century) was so long ago, and there's not much in the written records to go by in many cases.
All of which could be a segway into a discussion of how people go about rating boxers to be added to the game ... |

As the lawyers say, asked and answered. It's kind of like Jose Legra and some of the other low-rated champs in TBCB. They jumped up and won big ones, or had overall strong records, but also had some horrendous outings and losses that tarnished their titles. King had a .500 overall record and was beaten by people he shouldn't have lost to ... on paper ... which "balances out" the big wins. Hard to justify any higher rating under those circumstances.
