Mercurio, Phil #021849

My grandfather is Phil Mercurio and, in searching family history, was told he was a fighter that also went by the name of the "Charleston Kid". He passed away in 1944 so I don't know much about him, but I would like to confirm if this Phil Mercurio you have listed is one in the same. If anyone has any info on Phil Mercurio, the Charleston Kid, and/or a photo, I would greatly appreciate it!

Do you have any more info to go by? Date and place of birth for instance. Can I assume you do not have a photo of your grandfather? Do you have any more details of his boxing career?

In researching, I have just found that the Phil Mercurio listed here (#21849) was born 11-9-1906 in New Rochelle, NY, so I now know he is not my grandfather. I believe my grandfather was born 3-17-1903 in Toledo, OH and died April 27, 1944 in Toledo. I was told by two family members that he was a prizefighter that also used the name Charleston Kid and that he was very good for a while...unfortunately, that's all I know. I do have two photos, but will need to dig them out for scanning. I've read of another Phil Mercurio boxer, but the articles state "from Detroit", so...the search goes on. Thank you for your help!
