Hey all,
So a small group of very smart Oilers fans released a fancy stat website that might be useful for FHM research (at least for NHL players) or anybody interested in advanced stats in hockey. http://puckiq.com They contextualize advanced stats based on quality of opposition. You can find more info here. I posted this here because I thought QoC-based (Quality of Competition) advanced stats might come in handy when researching/scouting players for future versions of FHM. If it is not appropriate I ask that somebody move it to the appropriate section. Thanks! |

I'd like to do something with QoC, but the big issue there is the storage and processing requirements - we'd need to track the amount of time each player spends on the ice with every other player in the league and then derive the quality numbers from that. Across 20+ leagues, that's really going to slow things down, to a degree that's probably not worth what you'd gain from being able to present the stat. You can get around that to an extent by using depth chart place as a proxy for specific player identifications, but that prevents the more common usages of QoC.

Maybe have it just for the NHL/AHL/ECHL? The game is still relatively NHL-centric (NHL historical mode, NHL licensing, etc) so I don't see why not? |
