Tired Much?
2 guys, same game (actually the game after the AS break). The pitcher (a RP) pitched to 1 batter in the 8th. The other pitcher (a SP) got his first pitch hit 428ft in the stands in the 14th. Why did he get so tired over a single pitch?

Also, I think tiredness is factored in differently for starting pitchers as opposed to relievers, regardless of whether an SP pitches in relief. I might be wrong though.

SP stamina is handled differently than RP stamina. The theory is that it takes longer for an SP to recover between outings than an RP. This isn’t odd as far as OOTP is concerned. I’m more surprised the SP wasn’t closer to zero percent.

15 stamina for a RP is quite low as I refuse to get a reliever less than 40 Stamina for that very reason

As mentioned stamina is different for RP and SP.
Is warmup rule on? Maybe one got worn down in the bullpen. Where both at 100% going into game? Yes it does look weird but there are a lot of variables. |

This has always been an issue. It's not realistic, and since starters are being used to close games more and more, it's going to have to be fixed at some point.

In 2018, the top 100 starters in MLB (2018), started 2,942 games and relieved in 99 (3%.) In 1988, the comparable numbers were 3,029 and 137 (4%.) But in 1958 it was 2,223 starts and 987 reliefs (33%) and in 1928 it was 31%. In short, starters used to be commonly used as relievers, but not for decades since the 50's or 60's. This coincides with the reduction of 1) starters completing games 2) starters pitching on 3 days rest and 3) pitching staffs growing from 10 to 12. Starters are not used like they were decades ago, when they could be asked to relieve from time to time.
Regardless, starting and relieving aren't the same. Pitchers like Smoltz have already said as much. Last edited by Drstrangelove; 12-13-2018 at 01:56 AM. |
