Unsigned College Players
How do unsigned college draft picks decide when to sign with their NHL team?
I'm in 2022 and a college first round pick of mine has now played four college seasons and refused to sign every year. Now he is saying he wants to play college hockey for yet another year. He's been ready for the NHL for years and it seems unlikely he'd turn down NHL money as a first round pick for this long. What's with this guy and his wanting an education!? |

Yeah, that's an issue with FHM 3. I've seen only 2 players (and I'm in 2052) TOTAL leave college early for the NHL. Almost every single player will play their entire 4 year career in the NCAA. It's pretty unrealistic to see top 10 NHL draft picks (rated 3-5 star current and potential) stay there that long when they're clearly ready for the NHL. Realistically, these top guys should be done after a year or two. I've seen top 3 picks who are already 4 stars overall at 18-19 have to wait 3-4 seasons to play in the NHL.
Hopefully this is improved for FHM 4.

I probably need to rebalance the stay-in-college formula a bit (it's tricky to balance it between the NHL strip-mining the NCAA and nobody leaving college early), although that may get thrown out entirely in favour of the new AI we're working on for FHM4. Right now it's age-based, so a player who started in the NCAA at 18 may not realize he's already played four years and want to go back for a 5th.

Alright that's unfortunate.
Wish I had asked this earlier, every year I'm waiting to plug this guy into my lineup and he refuses, pissing me off. Then I have to find someone else to fill that spot. I guess he'll get in there soon enough though. Hopefully he'll dominate then. |
