"Rule Change Announced"

I have been a loyal customer since Season Ticket Baseball. I buy the latest version without a second thought because the game has given me so much enjoyment that I feel I owe it to the company to do my part. However, I am so angry with this version because of what many may see as a trivial thing. I just finished my first season with real rosters MLB and I get this horrific message:

League Officials have just announced the minimum service time to reach free agency has been reduced to 5 years. This will enable players to test the open market earlier and thus make more money. The number of year required to reach arbitration has been reduced by 1 year as well.

What on earth is this all about? This is bad for the game of baseball as well as OOTP. Is this a bit of bias coming out of the developers? Small and mid market teams are having a hard enough time competing now we think it is good for the game to reduce the time that these teams can afford their players?

A much better idea would be to reduce the years of league minimum salary for players and increase the arbitration years. How about 2 years at league min and 5 years at arbitration eligibility?

I shouldn't be this angry but I am.

This is a result of the league evolution settings. As IsaacR said, if you don't like it, go change it back in the league settings (and maybe disable league evolution while you're at it).

Why someone would presume the developers hardcoded this in is beyond me.

This can be turned off. I'm still strongly in the camp that auto evolution should be off by default. There are so many posts every year about people getting pissed about their leagues changing and not having any idea this is turned on.

I get your point but if you didn't know league evolution existed, like most new players, what else would they assume?

You must have the dynamic league option in. I like the idea but I keep it off because of rule changes I might not agree with that could potentially ruin a save. I would love a option to "vote" on it during winter meeting or just being able to veto it.

turn of league evolution if you don't want it to happen and reset this change in the league settings.

This isn't anything new with OOTP16, the same feature was there last year and before.

edit: others have kicked in as I see. League Evolution off by default would be my choice.

Except he said in his OP that he'd been a loyal customer since Season Ticket Baseball. He still might not have known it was there (though how I can't imagine), but he's not new (based on the information provided).

And I get your point, but I'm a little perplexed at someone who's been here since 2003 thinking this was a hardcoded change to hurt small market teams.

Yeah I think the OP is confused and should not be blaming OOTPD for anything nefarious. Having said that anything that can seriously affect the integrity of the game should be off by default.

We have this discussion every year. Somebody needs to listen.

I keep this on but only allow expansion, team moves, team nickname changes & changes in the amount of offense & pitching. I like some randomness in my sims so I can start with current rosters and play out a few decades but have completely different experiences.

you not have played much on OOTP15 then for they had evolution in play then and my solo league did 3 rule changes in 5 seasons. Will be interesting to see what OOTP16 does to me. I play out my games and in playoffs at the moment.

Ditto. When I didn't have league evolution turned off, I never went more than 5-6 years before something happened.
