This photograph must be extremely rare because he had exactly two MLB plate appearances while wearing #34 in 1938...Lou Boudreau.

He is absolutely, positively, unequivocally one of the most criminally underrated players of all-time. Unfortunately, this photo does not demonstrate one of his greatest attributes, which was running down fly balls in a stadium with the deepest CF fence that I've ever seen (Tiger Stadium: 440 feet) time after time after time...Chet Lemon.

Great bat to ball skills, very good career cut short by glaucoma. Why do I have him in the baby blues? The memories are quite foggy, but I was in Fenway Park in 1985, and the Twins were taking pre-game batting practice. Somebody lined an absolute shot into foul territory that I somehow caught with my glove. It left a bruise on the palm of my hand for quite a while. Nobody else could hit the ball that hard...Right? Right? I'll always remember it as a Kirby Puckett foul ball even if it wasn't.

Simply put...The King...He came up in 2005 at age 19, and to quote Dave Niehaus "My, oh my!" was he ever a prodigy. He's a shell of his former self now, but he was definitely on a HoF track before getting derailed in 2016 at age 30. He was the kind of pitcher that you would show up on the spur of the moment to watch pitch. I would imagine there were lots of walk up sales on the days he pitched regardless of what ballpark he pitched in. He was that good...Felix Hernandez.

Went to a Yankee-White Sox game years ago and Rowand made 2 unbelievable diving catches, back to back for the 2 and 3rd outs, in the bottom of the first inning. At the very least would have been 2 doubles with most outfielders. He received a standing ovation from the Yankee crowd returning to the dugout.

Intimidating slugger (most likely with a little "help"), but not such a great fielder

I almost was there - we arrived in New York the same day he pitched his perfect game and went to Yankee Stadium the next day.
Great guy, #33 David Wells

I present a quartet of Blue Jays who've worn the number 33.
He came to us a broken down pitcher who the Yankees released a third of the way through the 1983 season because they thought he was done. Two and a half years later, he chucked a complete game 5-hitter (with neither a walk nor a strikeout) against those same New York Yankees to clinch the AL East for the Blue Jays, and send them to their first postseason berth in franchise history. As we rushed the field, he was carried off in triumph (Yes, I was there - I was also there three days later for the first postseason game in franchise history against the Kansas City Royals)...Doyle Alexander. He hit the second most important HR in Blue Jays' history IMHO: #1. Roberto Alomar's game tying 2-run shot off Eck in Game 4 of the 1992 ALCS. #2. His pinch hit 2-run shot off Jeff Reardon in Game 2 of the 1992 World Series to wake up his teammates and help get them moving in the right direction again. #3. The one you all thought would be #1 - Joe Carter's 1993 World Series winning 3-run HR off Mitch Williams. Why do I have the first two ahead of Carter's? If those two don't get hit, the Blue Jays are not the defending World Series champions in 1993. Period...Ed Sprague Jr. He was only here for a brief time, but man was he great, even at an advanced (for baseball) age. He's another criminally underrated player, and he'd easily be in my HoF because of his spectacular all around game. Also, look at the baserunner in this shot. Blue Jays fans are pinning all of their hopes on his progeny to kick start the next great generation of what we hope will be great Blue Jay teams...Scott Rolen (baserunner Vladimir Guerrero Sr). A very late blooming southpaw, with a very elegant delivery...J.A. Happ.

He wore the #33 very, very, very briefly for the Indians after he was traded from the Angels, and before he broke the colour barrier for field managers...Frank "The Judge" Robinson.

Another player who easily makes my HoF because I can't think of anything that he couldn't do on a baseball field. Coors Field effect my ass. A 140 wRC+ in 8,030 career PA along with all of the other things he brought to the game. I really, really, really wanted to use an Expos picture here, but he's definitely a Rockie...Larry "Booger" Walker.

He had a tremendous pitching career, and played for six different franchises, but it all started in Cleveland...Luis "El Tiante" Tiant.

Another highly underrated ballplayer, who only wore the #33 for 230 of his 10,081 PA...Bobby "El Come Dulce" Abreu.

Another player who was much better known for a different number and for his play with a couple of different franchises in particular. Unfortunately, I could not find a picture of him swinging the bat with this franchise and number, but that's what he was much more known for...Mike Piazza.

He had a surprisingly very good career. Much better than I remember it being. One of the ringleaders of "The Idiots" that broke the Curse of the Bambino in 2004...Johnny "Caveman" Damon.

Much, much, much more well known for his exploits with the St. Louis Cardinals, and for his "Mad Dash" in the 1946 World Series, he did spend two seasons with the Kansas City Athletics, where he wore the number 33...Enos "Country" Slaughter.

His accomplishments elsewhere are much more chronicled and well known, but he spent one season in the South Bronx, where he briefly wore the number 33..."Jack the Ripper" Clark.
