Issue with contracts

Randomly some contracts either reset or another year gets added on as if the previous year's contract was tolled.

For example in the offseason i should have had 5 years left on Ladds contract however another year got added on randomly. He played all most of the season on didnt really miss much.

he's only asking for a 2.8 mill bridge contract but wouldn't someone who puts up numbers like this be asking for 7mill + ? or is their other fators, could he just not want to play for my team?

Also seeing teams trade their highly drafted prospects for worse players.

Calgary offered their 2nd overall pick from the year prior for a bottom six forward.
