Money Leagues?

This is something that is popping up more and more nowadays. ONline leagues are developing and players are putting actual money into pots to be distributed to the winner (or however they choose to distribute it). In some ways it functions like a fantasy league.

On console games I have been hesitant to play in any money leagues do to the "cheese" factor and players trying to glitch or cheat their way to the title. However, in simulation games where all you have control over is your roster and settings, I thought that might be more feasible.

Has anyone tried running or playing in a league that plays for money?

I have always envisioned a money league with a format that had teams do a buy-in at the beginning of the season based on there payroll. this would ensure that every owner was very frugal with there money. I love this idea.

It's been done before, not sure who ran it or if it's still going. You'd need a load of trust that's for sure.

This has been done, it failed after one season. LINK

7 of 20 GM's dropped out after the first season so the league decided to fold. They also ran into an issue where a few teams in the inaugural draft drafted purely prospect talent, thereby guaranteeing long term success...but it created a strange league in which a handful of teams had all the prospects.

That's the one I was thinking of.

The concept is interesting to discuss but, very hard to sustain.

Possibilities for its success:

1. 1 year league only
2. Commission hosts but doesn't control a team (maybe he gets a fee to do this)
