Anyone that doesn't believe players can get much much worse for no reason...
I present to you the real life story of Scott Kazmir.

Ah, I dont know your idea of for "no reason". The guy has been on the injured list every year since he was called up.

I know it happens in real life, but it seems like it happens more often in OOTP universes. No real data to back it up, but I feel like if I want to guarantee a player falls off the face of the earth, I give him a long-term, high-value contract. Newman!

The Mets clearly knew what they were doing when they traded him for Victor Zambrano. Oh...wait.

Note that Armando Gallaraga was released. Just a few month ago somebody posted in disgust because a mediocre pitcher had a no-hitter against a good team.

Oops I should know the difference. El Gato was a fine player.

As Pirates fan my immediate example would of course be:

Markakis is the best example I can think of. No real injuries and his slugging from 2007-2011 (age 23-27 seasons) has been .485, .491, .453, .436, and now .344 in 2011 at just 27.
Russell Martin went from a .280/15 HR player in 2006-2008 to a .250/7 HR player in 09-10 (before the hip injury). Travis Hafner had 3 years as an offensive stud, before dropping to .266/24 HR in 2007 and got off to a terrible start in 2008 before the injuries started in, robbing him of most of the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
