Whether they come for the beta during the next couple of days or the full-release version from Friday on, is there any difference between the website and Steam versions when it comes to updates? Are more "light/quick-fixes" website updates (as I assume they are easier to just go and upload to the server) than updates released on Steam as they have to go through a review process over there?

The updates for both come out at the same time and with the same frequency.

Steam updates only by downloading needed files, so the actual process of downloading and install the updates is quicker than for the standalone, where you have to download and reinstall the whole game each patch.

Steam does auto-updates though, so you don't have to do anything. But you also have less control over whether an update is installed or not, and sometimes you might not want to install a specific update, which isn't possible on Steam.

So it's a tradeoff. Really depends on your needs and play style as to which is best.

I'd understand if you don't have a specific answer, but could you provide some examples or when an update is not needed (a user might want to skip that one, I mean)?

I play 100% offline, both MLB and fictional leagues, so I guess I wouldn't need every single update out that is related to online play, but which could be some potential cases that make an update avoidable other than those? I've always bought through Steam but if modding is not hard to apply on the standalone version I'd buy through the web to give you all profits!

Thanks!

I don't really have any specifics. I just know sometimes people have posted talking about preferring to skip a patch or wait for another one or whatever. Generally I think this is related to online leagues, and needing to be on the same patch.

Mods are not hard to apply on the standalone, you basically just have to download them and unzip to the correct folders.

I wish I had known this before I purchased the standalone. For me, on a DSL connection, it was a 40+ minute download last night. To have to do that every time there is a patch is going to be a pain, especially patches that are required for PT, which I believe some were in 20. Oh, well, live and learn. Back to Steam next year.

Ouch!! Where do you live, 2003? No, seriously, I think that's so unfortunate. You're best off starting the download once you call it a night. Then, the first thing you do in the morning is to run the update. Hopefully, there aren't a ton of patches.

Rural Indiana, so, yeah, about 2003! When we bought our house, in 1987, we had a party line and when I needed to call overseas, it had to be operator assisted because our local phone company didn't have switches that could handle the call automatically. It has improved, slightly, but I still hope to move to a decent sized city when we retire.
