Strategies or No Strategies

Hello,
I remember reading somewhere one of the Trunzo brothers talking about how they didn’t like the strategy aspect of their game because they felt it tainted the ratings.

What are your opinions on this? I’m torn between assigning random corner men to the fighters for my upcoming tournament and using strategies, or checking them off so no strategies are used at all and just the base card ratings are used.

I’d be interested to hear some takes on this as I feel the use of strategies could make a big impact in the game.

Thanks!

Some really don't like the strategies here either but I use them because it can make the fights more interesting.

I've had fights where 1 fighter appeared to be cruising to a decision victory so the opponent goes for the KO in the later rounds. Can make for some pretty exciting moments late in fights.

Thanks for the reply! I’m leaning towards having them on just for that reason. Might give some of the lesser fighters a chance later on fights when they are behind on the score cards and need a KO to win.

Yes, it can make for some entertaining results & like in real life, you may wonder why a fighter decides to do that when they could have made a smarter choice but that's part of the fun of sports - how unpredictable it can be at time.

I can't see in the game where it says how much fighting outside, or going for the knockout effects the ratings.

I remember reading (probably in one of these forum threads) that leaving strategies off leads to more realistic results. Or at least I think I remember reading that

Yeah, I wish there was some sort of manual that described in detail how the mechanics of the game (based on the original board game) work as far as how things change throughout the fight when different things occur. For example, like exactly how the strategies effect the ratings.

The Commodore 64 version of "Title Bout" was excellent about doing so, and in many ways was a superior version to 2.5 (And it was made in the mid 1980s!)

The C64 version constantly made you aware of how the dynamics of the fight were changing. For example, if you chose the strategy "Fight Inside" and won the round, after the round it would say something like "Rocky Marciano won that round fighting inside and his opponents Stamina is Reduced by 15 extra points!" or "Tony Galento took severe punishment that round and will be TKOd if knocked down next round!"

The C64 was the direct replica of the board game in digital format and it was done absolutely perfect. If it had the bells and whistles of todays versions it would be the dream boxing game. Also included with the C64 version was a thick manual, describing in detail how the mechanics of the board game worked, so you always knew what was going on in the game, and it made it so much more immersive.
