One Final Series

The plane with the first place Cap Chevalier Waves was landing as the Le Diamant plane was about to depart. The Waves finish up on the road against the Artists. We practically pleaded with the Artist players to to win a few from the Waves. A lot of joking about it, but, we leave Paris happy with our efforts.

We'll finish up with our own 3 game set against the Sting Rays back in Martinique. Whatever happens, it's been a glorious first season for me. Wouldn't trade it for the world.

August 28 Game

Vic Cosman's first pitch of the game was blasted for a home run and it took the air right out out of the fans/ballpark. But, not for long, as we rallied for 3 runs in the bottom half of the first to go up 3-1.

Vic was on his game until he was lifted in the 8th. He had staked the Diamonds to a nice 4-1 lead as he turned it over to young Cole Burke. Burke gave up a walk and 4 hits in 2 innings. That plus a dropped fly ball in left by Yannick Siccard paved the way to the Sting Rays to tie it up at 4 runs apiece.

In the bottom of the 9th pinch hitter Bonhomme lined a single. In a pinch hit role, I followed up with another base hit to put 2 on. Mathieu Michel hit a grounder to 2b and just beat the relay to avert the double play. Habib Vial's SF gave us the all important win. Huge game for us.

Standings with 2 games to go

The pressure doesn't let up, even after a W. We still trail the Waves by a game thanks to our Parisian 'friends' who won the opener from Cap Chevalier.

Just 2 games left in the regular season

The Waves have only a 33-34 road record so it's not unreasonably to imagine the Artists winning another game. That is what we are hoping for in Le Diamant. But, the business at hand is not in Paris. It is on the ball field with the Sting Rays.

One Game, Three Teams in it

The Sting Rays came to play ball and it showed right from the start to the end. A dominating win, combined with the Waves walk off loss, creates the possibility of a two way tie for first. Cap Chevalier can do no worse that tie and completely control their fate. A win and they are champs of the Martinique Division. A loss and they are headed to a playoff game.

The Final Scheduled Regular Season Game

A see-saw ball game that Le Diamant never trailed. Light hitting Eric Robert ripped a triple in the 8th to score LeVick with the go ahead run (4-3). In the top half our closer, Lesage, gave up 2 runs to allow the Sting Rays to tie it up. Lesson learned. In the bottom of the 9th he retired all three Anse d'Arlet batters to secure the win.

The bad news for us is the Waves won 3-2 over the Artists in Paris to win the League Championship by one game.

Heckuva a season. I know I'll never forget it. I kind of hope that the Waves can go all the way and win it for our little island. They already have two FBL championships and just might be the first to win a third.

Oh, so close!
Well, wait 'til next year. Still, nice to go out with a win and know that your team did their part at least.

I'm amazed at the number of exciting pennant races Julien has been involved in as it seems to go down to the wire each year.

Matthieu Michel is an amazing player. He is so young and already just ripping the cover off the ball. I think these Diamonds will be even better next season. Hopefully, C Legendre can make the jump up to Le Diamant as that is a position that the Diamonds need to upgrade.

The Championship Final

The Royals are going for a repeat performance from last year when they defeated the Anse d'Arlet Stingrays, 4-2.

They will be up against two time winner the Cap Chevalier Waves.

The Teams

Montreal appears to be the favorite with their strong pitching corp and all around good team. But, the Waves are no strangers to pressure baseball and they proved it in 1960, 1961, and now, the final month of 1964.

Through 8 innings

DeMay has gone all the way for Cap Chevalier. Can the Caps hold on for the series win?

Riding the Wave

The smallish village on the Atlantic side of the island takes home it's 3rd championship of the sixties. Storming back from a 1-3 deficit, the Waves won it on the road depriving the Royals of back to back titles.

Patrick Beck

Our Scouting Director's contract was not renewed. I'm really disappointed as my relationship with Patrick Beck was always great. He really took time with the players to make sure they were doing well, AFTER they had been selected. He will be missed.

On the heels of learning this we have heard rumors about the next Scouting Director. Our owner has always coveted the Director of the 3 time champion Cap Chevalier Waves. It doesn't seem possible, but the rumor is that he will be leaving the Waves.

Awards will be announced in a few days. So, lots of things happening even though the season has ended.

Reliever of the Year Award

Marie Boissan is this years winner. He's a flamethrower with nasty stuff. Marie lead the lead in Road K's, aka road kill, with 45.

I too will miss Mr. Beck. (I'll have to tell my buddy he needs to look for a new job.)

Diamond Platinum Stick Winners

Le Diamant has two position players who won the award at their position. They are two time winners.

Levick may be heading towards free agency as he is yet to sign. It is rumored that he will receive a qualifying offer. Mercier is locked down until 1970.
