There was 1 more game on the 1882 schedule i still needed to sim but it didnt change the league leaders in standings. I decided to have a 7game series as the world championship series from 1882-1891 and then the Temple Cup. Still not sure how i will handle the Union Association. Anyway heres the box score for 1882 World Championship Series Game 1.

Was able to generate the almanac. It might have been cause i only had 1 league from 1871-1881. Ill see if thats the case when i get to 1890's. Im pretty sure it is.

Detroit wins the World Championship Series for 1882 4-2. I disagree with the choice of Wiedman has series MVP. I think Derby pitched just as good. Whitney's 10 hits was impressive as well.

Bear in mind that the game still thinks it's 2015, so it's going to be overly impressed by pitching performances that, back in the day, were regarded as routine. Today, we'd be amazed at a pitcher who, for instance, threw eleven innings and gave up only two earned runs, but in the early decades of baseball that was the kind of thing that was expected of a pitcher.

Whitney only scored 3 runs so maybe the choice wasnt bad but i Derby stats do look a little better to me.

Jumbo McGinnis (25-14-0, 1.88 ERA, 163 K) was the American Association rookie of the year, Cy Young winner and the MVP for 1882.

Providence takes game 1 of the 1883 world championship series 6-5 in 10 innings. Old Hoss Radbourn was the MVP. I didnt really think he pitched that great. Especially early in the game. I think his era is deceiving. I think he benefited from the Alleghenys 12 errors.

1883 World Champion Series game 5 box score
Providence wins the championship in 5. Old Hoss Radbourn is the series MVP. And his 59 win season is still to come. |
