Should "Take a Pitch" be nerfed?
I play out almost all of my games. I have noticed that I draw a lot more walks than the AI does. Also, when I sim games I notice that my team does not draw as many walks as when I play it out and use take a pitch.
I think the likelihood of drawing a walk is too high when the take pitch option is used. I can present examples but this is so obvious that I think that it is not necessary to present data. For those of you that play out most of your games do you think that "Take a Pitch" should be nerfed?

This is one of the many reasons why I only make player/pitcher substitutions for my games. I don't want any kind of advantages over the AI who can be easily exploited by many options.
"It's your game, play it your way" well for me it's "Play it fair, don't take advantage of the AI" |

You need a third poll option:
No, don't take it out, and if it is proven to be an exploit, ask Markus to fix it. |

The poll was kinda tongue-in-cheek. I'm really just trying to compare my perception against the community's perception. I simply don't have enough data to stake a claim, however, it has certainly has caught my attention recently.
Basically, I wondering if others are noticing this. If so, then maybe I would be in a good position to start collecting data since I play out almost all of my games.

You could give yourself house rules like only use it 2-3 times a game.

It seems that when I instruct a batter to take a pitch, the pitcher throws a strike at least 90 percent of time.
If the AI overlooks obvious "take" situations, e. g., pitcher at bat and 3-0, that should be corrected. If your evidence is sufficiently rigorous, let Markus know about it. |

Not sure I've noticed anything peculiar about the 'take a pitch' mechanics, but one thing that does seem to need nerfing is the Sac Bunt. Maybe it's just anecdotal, but seems to me Sac Bunts succeed far too often -- like 80% of the time.
Again, maybe just impressionistic but sac bunts seem like nearly a sure thing in OOTP... |

Just don't abuse it.
The only time I ever use Take a Pitch is when I have a potential base stealer on (which is the only time a go pitch-by-pitch) and the count gets to 3-0. Because if I press swing away the batter will, and that is generally a stupid thing to do.

Well, this should not be the case at all really... probably a sample size issue.

Would it help if I tracked my data or is this something that you know for sure?

I don't want them to mess with it because who knows what could happen to some seemingly unrelated factor in simming or otherwise. But, I think it is clearly an exploit. If you play out the games, you could probably end up with a team OBP that would make Ted Williams feel inadequate.

This is kind of what I recently started doing. Only using it for my 1, 2 & 9 batters.

Take pitch to the extreme.
Toronto was losing to New York in the top of the ninth inning 8 to 4.
I decided to take as many pitches as possible to see what would happen. Result - A.Bailey walked 5 Toronto batters allowing the Blue Jays to tie the game at 8-8. The Blue Jays lost to New York 10 -9 in the bottom of the ninth inning. Your thoughts? |
