Ideal reserve roster setup

I've never played a game using the reserve roster instead of minor leagues.

What's the ideal setup so things don't get out of whack? Number of amateur draft rounds? Size of reserve roster? Things like that.

I'll be using a 24-team, random debut, full financial setup.

From what I've been able to gather from searching the forums, the general consensus is that just have a single level of minors is better than a reserve roster.

Apparently with reserve rosters there is a tendency for the AI to horde good players. And it restricts certain types of contract actions (if you are into that portion of the game.. which I am).

And note I was just researching this on these forums in the last few days..

Some more experienced players may wish to weigh in if they have more knowledge.. I'm just reflecting what I've read.

I use reserve rosters for historical leagues with no fictional players. I usually go with a 25-man reserve roster and a 5-7 round draft (or just import new players to their debut teams). The AI won't fill the reserve roster in most cases, and it seems to work ok.

Then if your reserve roster is full, you have to cut players from your reserve roster prior to the draft, correct?

I don't know. It's never been full.

However, I have seen an AI team with a full roster and they were not required to cut down until the first day of the next season. In other words, they were allowed to import their debut rookies and go over the limit. I assume it would work the same for a draft.
