Schedule request: 80 teams, 2 subleagues, 4 divisons, no inter-divisional play

I'm creating a pro/rel universe where 80 teams all play in the same league, 20 teams in each division. Since each division is to be treated like a seperate league unto itself, I want no inter-divisional games. Total schedule: 154 games. (I wonder, though, if 152 wouldn't be better: 19x8=152...)

Thanks!

This shouldn't be that hard. I've always been intrigued by schedules and seen the great work gmo has done in the past. I'll see if I can tackle this one.

While I'll never get to the point where I can simply input 80 teams and 152 games, and a schedule will automatically be outputted, tackling your request has definitely increased my skills and competency in this regards. Thanks for giving me the opportunity.

As for your requested schedule, I've got a large chunk of it completed. Just trying to make off days, length of home stands, and length of road trips realistic now, among other things.

I tried really hard to keep all home stands and road trips limited to 4 series (16 games). It is pretty hard though, especially considering it's my first time trying to make a schedule. Therefore, there are a very few 5 series (20 games) home stands and road trips right now. I'll try later to get rid of them, while I work on finalizing other parts of the schedule.

Alright, I am very satisfied with how fast work is progressing. I'm just working on the last part of the schedule now - start times. As almost all days will have 40 games taking place, I'm going to make it so certain teams have a "habit" just to spice things up. For example, the Blue Jays almost always start games at 7:07 local time.

I gave up with trying to make each team's home games all standard. So therefore you might see a team having a home stand as follows:

Monday 7:05pm
Tuesday 8:05pm
Wednesday 1:10pm
Thursday 7:05pm
Friday 8:05pm
Saturday 1:10pm
Sunday 7:05pm

It was either this, or all 40 games start at 1:10pm/7:05pm. I did make it so a majority of the weekend games, and a good chunk of Wednesday games, be afternoon games. Whether they start a hour earlier or a hour later was just random.

Anyways, I'm finally done the schedule. Just importing it into my OOTP now to make sure it works!

Man, the debugging and making sure it worked well when loaded into the game took longer than I thought! Will have to find a way to continue simplifying the process. Without further ado, and sticking with gmo's tradition, I present to you my first schedule... *drum roll*

#
# 80 team schedule, 152 games
# Designed for the following configuration:
# 1 subleague with 4 divisions, each with 20 teams
#
# 8 games against 19 other teams in division (4H/4A)
#
# No cases of more than 20 straight days without an off day
# For most teams, it is probably only a maximum of 16 straight days
# In the end, it would have been time-consuming to ensure all teams only went 16 days without an off day
#
# No home stands or road trips longer than 16 games*
# There were three teams that each had a single 20-game road trip
# Again, it was hard to avoid and would have required much more time
#
# Varied start times
#
# Season begins first Wednesday after April 1st
# Season thus ends on the 4th Sunday of September (sometimes the 3rd Sunday)
#
# All-Star break set for around the 2nd week of July
#

OK, I've downloaded the schedule; how do I actually introduce it into the game?

I would move that file into your OOTP Schedules folder, then import it from there.

I asked for:

Schedule request: 80 teams, 2 subleagues, 4 divisons, no inter-divisional play

Unfortunately, you created:

1 subleague with 4 divisions, each with 20 teams

I really appreciate your hard work on this, but can you tweak it so it's two sub-leagues?

Again, thanks!

Considering that the schedule only has intra-divisional games, all you'd need to do is change the header from this:

<SCHEDULE type="ILN_BGN_G152_SL1_D1_T20_D2_T20_D3_T20_D4_T20 _C_" inter_league="0" balanced_games="0" games_per_team="152" start_month="4" start_day="1" preferred_start_day="4" allstar_game_day="98">

to this:

<SCHEDULE type="ILN_BGN_G152_SL1_D1_T20_D2_T20_SL1_D1_T20_D2 _T20_C_" inter_league="0" balanced_games="0" games_per_team="152" start_month="4" start_day="1" preferred_start_day="4" allstar_game_day="98">

I assume by "changing the header", you mean opening the lsdl file into Wordpad and altering the indicated section. Well, i did that, and...the game won't accept the schedule. Hm.

I'm going to create a new thread; hopefully somebody can help.

What error message are you receiving?

EDIT: I tried it out and I found the problem. This is the header that you need to copy and paste into the schedule file:

<SCHEDULE type="ILN_BGN_G152_SL1_D1_T20_D2_T20_SL2_D1_T20_D2 _T20_C_" inter_league="0" balanced_games="0" games_per_team="152" start_month="4" start_day="2" start_day_of_week="4" allstar_game_day="98">

Make sure that you don't have the "schedule balance" box checked in the Options Page, set the season start date to April 2, 2014, and force start it on a Wednesday.

Tried it again, and...

...no dice. "Could not import schedule. The loaded schedule has a different structure as the current league." What am I doing wrong?

I'm not sure what's going wrong. The game is very picky about having everything being precisely aligned, so it could be a number of things. Could you post a screen cap of your options page setup?

Also a screen cap of the league set up. Lets see what teams are in what divisions.

It's possible to have divisions of 20 20 21 19 and not even realize it (I've done stuff like this in testing my schedules

I tested this schedule out and it works.

80 teams
2 sub leagues 40 teams per SL
4 divisions of 20
152 games

All intra division games.
No interleague

Since this schedule works, you need to make sure you have the settings set up correctly on your side:

Turn ON interleague
Turn OFF balanced
Make sure it has 152 games listed on your schedule option page.
Verify you have the correct league set up. (I once was testing a league and had evolution on and it created 2 extra teams and I couldn't figure out why the schedule wouldn't work)
