What constitutes a play ?

So in my league with Challenge Mode enabled, if you mouse over the Challenge Mode logo, it states that I need to manage 20 plays for achievements to count.

I played out one game like I always do, play the game in full. After the game, it still says I need to manage 20 plays.

So, what constitutes a "play" then ?

If that's the case the mouseover should say 19 plays remaining after that one game I played.

A play is where you control the batting or pitching. So if you're managing the game and play it out and decide each play, it should count down.

Hmmmm...so if I have it on auto one pitch mode and only control the substitutions, it doesn't count even though I play out every game then ?

Even so, it's a byproduct and it seems any achievement can trigger it so it doesn't to me seem relevant to this forum.

No. You have to control more functions.

Seems to me like it does not work in the first game I played in a quick and dirty league. In the second game they counted down right away. This was played in classic 2D, one-pitch mode.

That new "feature" was added only because people playing PT would abuse the 1927 Yankees to get free packs every 3 days, so it is very much PT related.

Was this change to how to earn PT packs in challenge mode posted anywhere? If true, it’s frustrating that developers would make a change that would penalize regular OOTP players because a handful of people posted about trying to nerf it.

I always play in GM mode in challenge mode, not going to switch to manage mode just to earn an occasional pack.

Some achievements require active game management and others do not. This has not changed in 20.

You can still do that... this is just in game achievements, which if you're abusing the 1927 Yankees achievements, you wouldn't do that by playing in game but instead simming quickly.

This thread has zilch to do with perfect team.

Simming quickly means you'll only get the season long achievements, as opposed to playing it out and getting them all. Given that on any particular day, we don't know which achievement triggers a free pack, quick simming may miss the special achievement du jour—I've gotten a pack from in game before. Mind you...this isn't punishing you or restricting you from quick simming Challenge Mode...it's rewarding those who play it out as intended. Since it affects the number of free packs awarded, it is very clearly a PT matter.

The other way to look at this is to consider the development team as Gene Mauch saying, "I"m not always right because I'm the manager, but because I'm the manager...I'm always right." Ergo, this IS a PT matter.

There's no "achievement du jour". It's random.
