Pitcher Rating vs. Stuff/Movement/Control
I did a search for this but, somewhat surprisingly, didn't find anything that seemed to be related.
I get that Stuff is kinda an aggregate of his pitches and velocity; how good he is at changing it up, keeping the batter guessing about what's coming at him.Movement is how the ball moves in the air, how hard it is to hit. Control is how good he is at controlling where the ball actually ends up in relation to the strikezone. But what does the actual 'Pitcher' rating represent (the one on the left, where a fielder's 1B/2B/SS etc ratings would be)? I'm struggling to link that to things in reality. What would it mean to have great Stuff, Control and Movement with a good variety of pitches but have low Pitcher rating? And in a less abstract sense, what would you go for? A guy with a good Pitcher rating but less good S/M/C/pitches ratings? Or a guy with great S/M/C but a Pitcher rating in the 40s/50s (1-100)? |

Defensive position rating. If good it can help a bit. Are his defensive skills good?
Edit. I'd pay little attention to defense unless it is a tie breaker.

So, my 1902 Cincinatti Reds bullpen . . . which one of these guys is my "best pitcher?" (just looking at the aggregate L/R stuff, movement, & control):
Pitcher . . . . . . . . . .STU . . . MOV . . . CON A. Stimmel . . . . . . . . 51 . . . . 34 . . . . . .49 D. Newton . . . . . . . . 56 . . . . 55 . . . . . .43 N. Hahn . . . . . . . . . . 72 . . . . 30 . . . . . .66 C. Case . . . . . . . . . . 79 . . . . 19 . . . . . .53 A. Ruise . . . . . . . . . . 80 . . . . 40 . . . . . .56 D. Scott . . . . . . . . . . 85 . . . . 01 . . . . . .43 D. Heismann . . . . . . 93 . . . . 27 . . . . . .39 L Swormstedt . . . . . 95 . . . . 07 . . . . . .53 Newton, Hahn and Stimmel all have 100 Stamina. Everyone else is in the 1 to 15 ballpark. Just based on that, I've set Newton Hahn and Stimmel as my 3 man starting rotation. Restricting it to those three, I would say that Newton is the strongest (just based on these variables) as he has the least discrepancy between stuff, control and movement. Stimmel comes second and then Hahn? ADDIT: Ahhahah! I found it http://manuals.ootpdevelopments.com/...=game_controls Last edited by Anthropoid; 02-25-2015 at 10:57 AM. |
