The difference here is that you know the quality of the player and the pool well in advance. Drafts didn't exist, but you are still trying to have some balance. Don't forget, there are no long term contracts and the reserve clause is in effect for the first 70+ seasons. So the dynamics are different than most on-line leagues.

I had a spreadsheet we used in one historical league which was a weighted random order. Every team had a chance (weighted) at each pick, but a team could not lose more than 4 spots in the draft. I'll see if I can find it.

Maybe there is a consensus which can be arrived at.

Was that from the HNBA? That draft set up was very fair.

As long as it's not a random draft league, I'm in. Been there, suffered as a result.

I would consider starting another online league starting in 1901 if we could find 15 dedicated owners that appreciate the history of baseball. I was in a 6.5 league and ran it for awhile that started in 1901 and its a lot of fun but filling vacancies was always the hardest part for that league.

I'll play around with some test leagues and see what I can do. If I like how it turns out, i'll get a league going.

Or if Bristolduke gets one going, I'd love to be a part of it.

Smile New League

I'm definitely interested in a league that would start in the 40s or 50s!

That's another challenge in historical, leagues is when to start them. Different folks like different eras.

Appreciate the interest.

We may be about halfway there.

I'm seeing two things here;

1) Guys who want a 1901 starting league
2) Guys who want a 1940 starting league

Would it be possible to start 2 new leagues? Have two commissioners?

Or does OOTP allow for two historical leagues in the same file?

We could all sim at the same time in the same file, but we act as two completely different leagues with no players going between in any way?

Just an idea if anyone could handle this?

So far if you total everyone regardless of start date there are only 8 interested in a historical on-line league.

We need to be at least at 16 before worrying about start year. It will take two separate files to have different start years. Different commish, same commish, either way. It looks like we could get 2 commish one for each league. Now can we get enough GMs?

Can we consider having people own an AL and NL team? Is that not a good idea to start and try to let people take over one or the other until we get to 16.

What do people think about that? Other than barring trades between the teams (that would have to include release and sign as well), I would be OK.

True, start a thread with the league parameters and you will probably get some more interest.
