Is there a way to give a league additional rights
So if I wanted to give the NHL rights to additional leagues, so that I am able to sign players from say, nearly every league on the planet, is that possible in this game? I've been looking around in the game and on the forums and can't find anything. Thanks!

No, these settings currently cannot be changed. But I would love to see it customizable one day. ( ex. Allowing the user to tweak the khl transfer rules / CBA on July 1st of any season). The KHL is really the main restrictive league for not allowing their talent to leave when they have a contract.

This is a huge thing in the junior leagues. There are many many places that you have no way of acquiring rights from (through import drafts or whatever). So if a player was never drafted at the exact right moment(or even available at all), and slipped through, they can never be offered a contract.

The interrelationships between leagues when it comes to player rights are in the database, but not editable at the moment. There's a lot of potential to break the game's AI badly if those were changeable, so until we figure out a way to build in some safeguards to prevent that, they'll likely remain static. (And there are a few considerations beyond that, as well - e.g. the way the NHL deals with CHL rights or the tendency of college players to stay with their teams even in the face of pro offers.)

That makes plenty of sense, and that doesn't even get into things like cards and other rules for college hockey (like you become ineligible for NCAA) if you play anything professional.
I'm mostly just struggling with the CHL and if a player never gets drafted, they are never eligible to play in your league. We know it happens that some players skip major junior to pursue another path. Is there no supplemental draft, or anything besides bantam draft to bring domestic players into the league? |
