In case anyone is wondering; yes, they are repeatedly using the 'word' 'gambozize' in the interviews.

Day two highlights from this morning. Early in the Basho for the apple cart to be overturned but that's what's happened with a lot of Ozeki rishi going down.

Day Three - Terunofuji looks awfully good. We may be seeing the coronation of a new Yokozuna with this Basho.

Day four - Terunofuji in complete control as he tries to get the Yusho and be elevated to yokozuna.

Day Five - Terunofuji tosses Wakatakakage around like a rag doll. I can't see who will beat him but I imagine someone has to. I bet he finishes 14-1 at least two wins up on the field (though Mitekiumi looks like he may put in a strong basho too)

Day Six - Great match between Takeyaso and Mitekiumi. Terunofuji rolls on and the field starts to fall away from him.

Day Seven - Terunofuji with only one follower (Takakeishou) at this point.

Day eight - Terunofuji wins again and is 8-0 with only Takekeishou following. We'll see if he can continue to steamroll through the tougher week two schedule.

Day ten. Terunofuji is cruising at 10-0 with only Takakeisho and Endo following at a seemingly distant 8-2. We may have a new Yokozuna folks!

Days eleven and twelve - Terunofuji with a surprising loss to a middlin' maegashira. We suddenly have a contest with three days to go.

FYI - on day eleven, Terunofuji was dominant and was called for a ticky-tacky hair pull as he was in the process of throwing his man down for a DQ. Nonsense call by the judges.

So I was out of town and missed the last few days. Terunofuji ended up 12-3 which should really have been 13-2 as the DQ seemed ridiculous. He took the Yusho with a playoff win which makes two in a row for him. Now the wait to see if the Counsel promotes him to Yokozuna. Speculation is all over the place but my money is on them withholding the promotion at this time - the reason will be because this was not a strong enough Yusho for him to be considered at this time but I guarantee you that if he was Japanese he'd be a shoe in.

The next Basho is next month and I am rooting for Terunofuji to win and get a Yokozuna promotion.
This video is good for newcomers to sumo. It chronicles Terunofuji's remarkable comeback from the depths of the sport and also is a great exposure to the ranking system in sumo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7mqCXweXis

The July basho starts early (07/04) due to the Olympics. This will be an exciting one to watch.
- Hakkuho has announced that he will retire this year. This or one of the next two will be our last chance to watch the greatest Yokozuna ever in action. - With a yusho in July, Terunofuji could ascend to the rank of Yokozuna and cap off the greatest ever comeback in the sport - A 10 + win basho would set Mitekiumi up to vie for Ozeki status in September - Another poor showing could spell the end of Tochinoshin's career. One of the fiercest competitors of recent years. Here is the Banzuke for July: https://sumo.or.jp/EnHonbashoBanzuke/index/

Day 1 of the July basho and the big dog Hakuho is back. He and Terunofuji will hopefully stay healthy and finish this tournament with a great showdown.

Day Two:
- Takakeishou looks to have been hurt pretty badly unfortunately - Tough to watch Tochinoshin struggling to stay upright - the end is near - Terunofuji was shakey but held on and Hakuho looked in form https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGxf5s8Sobw

Day Three:
- Really nice match for Mitakiumi - Terunofuji and Hakuho roll on with great kimarite wins https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQrq-Td17cI

Day Four:
- Masterful showing from Hakuho! Experience counts - Terunofuji really dug deep to come back. He was really on the run in this one - Mitakeumi looked great after a shakey start to his basho. I really want to see 11 wins for him - So hard to watch Tochinoshin these days - other people are now tossing him the way he used to do https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwVn2LymWHw

Day Five:
- Tochinoshin resorts to a henka to get his first win. Sad days - Mitekiumi gets a freebie from the injured Endo to move to 4-1 as he tries to build an Ozeki run - Terunofuji and Hakuho continue to look great. Hoping this builds to a crescendo showdown next week. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44YBfvKgGSM
