Player popularity should change in time
I recently signed an aging Troy Tulowitzki in the 2018 season, he played a handful of games, hit .158 in 19 at bats and then my fans are pissed and my rating goes down in the offseason when we don't resign him. Fans would never be mad over losing a guy with 18 at bats who played no part in the team's success or lack there of

This is an excellent point and, provided it can be modelled, would be a huge addition to the game.
It would be very cool (and appropriate) if this could fluctuate Also a little on the confusing side is the young kid in Rookie league that ranks among your most beloved players in the organization. |

In my experience, those prospects with high popularity tend to be top draft picks - that would seem to reflect the phenomenon where diehard fans and media outlets get their names out into the public consciousness almost immediately after draft day.

I don't necessarily believe that popularity needs to deteriorate faster, but perhaps if a player's performance or yearly playing time falls below certain thresholds than the effect to your fan interest should be scaled back (and at some point, it shouldn't be affected at all).
