Team option question
alright I have a team option on a guy for 9 mill, but if I offer him an extension i can sign him for much cheaper.
Question 1: when it comes time to decline the option, will i have the option to negotiate with him after declining the option and before he reaches free agency? Question 2: if I sign him to a very cheap extension now (before declining his option) what will happen to him? |

If you extend a player who still has a team option, the game treats it as though you've accepted the option. So if you sign a guy with a team option to a cheap extension, his option year activates, and after that year, the extension kicks in.
