Upload files to FTP Server

Hi,

I just moved a well established league from OOTP9 to OOTPX.

Now I have a problem with the new version : I can't upload the new league files on the server. I have this message : "Finished Creation and Uploading Of The League File With Error".

The file starts uploading but then stops at about 20% with that error.

I can see on my server that the file started to transfer there, but is not complete.

Oh yeah... almost forgot to tell you that the file is big : 187 megs. Is it a maximum size for that file that OOTP can handle? I can transfer it manually on the server but I don't want this to be a permanent solution.

No known problem with the firewall.

If anyone has anything about that, any ideas or questions, post it. Maybe I was dumb enough to forget something important...

Thanks!

I don't know exactly what your problem is, but I would look into decreasing the size of your upload. Of course it depends on a lot of factors, but ours is under 20MB. Not including images, for example, makes a huge difference.

From the commissioner portal screen there is a league file settings button that you can press which will bring you to a screen that allows you to select what you want to upload or not upload. You probably want to include things like messages, etc for the last few sims though as otherwise if a member misses one update then they'll miss all those, but the images and a couple dats are not necessary every sim.

There are various threads on the commissioner boards (not just the OOTPX board) on the subject as well that you should maybe check out. There are probably more, but some are:

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...file-size.html

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...40mb-10mb.html

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...-download.html

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ween-sims.html

What we do is after every sim we upload a sim update file, the same one that the game uses to update in-game, and this file is under 20MB. We also provide a base file that just includes all the dats as the update file doesn't include all the dats you need to load the league. This base file people only need when they first join the league or if they need to reinstall for some reason. About the only other file that's needed is an images file that we update maybe once a season. I figure that's probably about as good (size-wise at least) as you can do it.

Thanks.

I'm already aware of these options but I will look into the links that you provided to create myself a beautiful smaller file...

It seems that this file is getting bigger and bigger each time I sim...

Thanks a lot kq76

I just finished reading the links that you provided and I wonder if there is any way, beside uploading the file via the game, to tell the game that everyone's got their images updated?

I copied the league on a dvd for my friend (2 people online league) so he obviously have all the updated images but the game doesn't know that and it makes the file 187 megs...

If I have to update it first using the in-game upload process, I will make a separate file for the updated images because the game won't let me upload because of the size of the file.

Unless one of you geniuses have an idea to reset the game's images thingy that keeps a record of which image have been uploaded...

Thanks!

Electrovik, since this thread is quite old, I am going to recommend that a moderator move this to closed status. If you are continuing to have problems with the ftp, please feel free to open a new thread in tech support and link back to this thread. Thank You.
