The Atlanta Braves beat the Chicago Cubs, 4-3, at Wrigley Field. The Braves got a fine performance from third baseman Bob Horner, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2-5 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Atlanta reliever Max Leon picked up the win to move to 4-1. Bruce Sutter suffered the loss.

This game was not decided until late. With one out in the top of the tenth, Glenn Hubbard hit a sacrifice fly. The Braves took the lead, 4-3.

"As well as we've been playing, I think we can play even better," said Atlanta manager .

Chicago now has a 5-game losing streak. Slugginh first baseman Dave Kingman homered off RHP Rick Camp.

Cesar Geronimo aided the Cincinnati cause with a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth. For the game, the center fielder was 1 for 5 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Henderson told the Cincinnati Bulletin.

Kingman homered off RHP Doug Bair as the Cubs tried to rally in the 9th.

Rader had a game-changing single in the bottom of the seventh. On a 0-1 curveball from Mark Wiley, he banged a run-scoring single to center, giving the Cubs a 6-5 lead. It was the 21st hit of the year for Rader.

"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Rader told the Chicago Gazette.
