I'm by no means an expert on any of this side of the game, but I used the default settings for quite a while and was kinda 'meh' about the whole thing.

I relatively recently decided to play around with the settings, and am currently using:
25
50
20
5

I find it *so* much more fun. It reminds me of Moneyball, and the fight between Beane and the oldschool scouts. With these settings, Beane actually gets listened to. The guy with the 1.10 OPS in AAA actually gets a chance now, despite the ratings saying he shouldn't be able to hit a barn door, and runs like his legs are broken. Sure, next year the wheels will doubtless fall off, but for now he's in the team and playing, like he would be in reality.

By default I feel the game relies too heavily on the ratings (what the guy SHOULD be able to do) and not enough on the stats (what he IS doing).

But the ratings are derived from stats.. so it's a double edged sword.

You mean the stats are derived from ratings, no?

And the stats do a better job of reflecting the ratings, I believe, than the AI's evaluation does. Especially for pitchers.

Your settings are closer to the fictional league defaults, which I enjoy. The MLB quickstart default does favor ratings, though.

Yea the fictional default seem to be favoring stats year after year...

I know this is an old post but I am trying to find the right balance in my historical league.
