Thanks. I've been looking for a good Tampa team name for my fictional league.

For his sake, I'd rather just pay the extra $5 that he will pass along to us. [I duck the various objects being virtually thrown at me now.]

Maybe this would be a pain in the butt for Markus, but maybe he can sell a licensed version for an extra $5-10, and a regular version with no MLB team names at the current price.
Also, does anyone around here know legal issues well enough to know if the MLBPA could raise a stink over player names? I believe MLB: The Show lists an MLBPA license on its credits screen. |

And you will pay his legal fees?

Ah, right, I had forgotten about that. However, we have facegens of the players, which is their likeness.

Does this include the minor league teams nicknames as well?

This is an excellent suggestion. After all, we are only talking about the MLB Quickstart, correct? Maybe an extra $5 for that, or base price for vanilla. ($10 is pushing it in my book).

I think it is foolish of MLB, but there is probably some unfortunate aspect of the legal system that requires them to serve notice every time something may be infringing and come to an agreement that does not "devalue" the trademarks.
Anyone who does not want this hassle should just make a template of the MLB startup and throw it into a new game each time. It should bypass this issue, shouldn't it? |

OK, makes sense. I just can't wrap my head around where the line is (or why there would be a line) between a photo at the top of a profile page in a text-based game and a player swinging a bat or throwing a pitch in a console game.

Right. And maybe the "vanilla" version includes the MLB quickstart, but without real team names, basically how it is in the Apple Store now. Personally, I would pay an extra $5 to buy the game with nicknames already in there, mainly as support to Markus & Co., but also because I'd be fine with paying $5 for the game in its current form. But I can understand how some people would choose to save $5-10 and edit the team names themselves.
