You can't turn them off in an MLB league.

I believe it's just another instance of someone stomping their feet and letting their body go limp until they get ice cream. I am not even super programmer and all I do is go into the database folder, delete the nicknames, and create a fictional league...no nicknames. It's that easy

All I said is you are running your mouth about something you don't have knowledge about, which is not insulting, merely fact. A polite person would have either: 1) posted a thread with a question, "Can we turn off Nicknames? or 2) Tested it himself to find the answer. If you say you are getting different results, then let me look at your league and see what is wrong with it. |

I like having the option for nicknames, and I don't think they should ever be removed completely - every once in a rare while, a nickname does add something to my experience. I usually delete 99% of them, however. I'm not a fan. But honestly, I don't understand the pushback against having an option to toggle nicknames on/off. That seems like a very simple solution that would appease everyone, since it allows those who enjoy the nicknames to leave them on, and those who hate them to turn them off. Boom, done, case closed. Like, why is there any debate here in the first place?

And it would be one thing, if the people were clamoring for a button acknowledged that the desired end can be reached without a button, but a button would really make their life easier. But instead they are saying there is no way to get there unless you go by button, which is patently false. |

I am an engineer. I know how to test things.
You cannot turn nicknames off in an MLB game. They don't go away. I have tested this and tried everything that everyone ever suggested. Nothing works. With the addition of foreign leagues to the MLB Quickstart, we suddenly find ourselves with foreign players with totally inappropriate American nicknames. They go all the way to the ridiculous. See some of the posts above. We need a switch to turn nicknames off. We shouldn't have to empty the nicknames file and reimport name files. We should just be able to turn nicknames off with a switch. That is what I am asking Markus for. An on-off switch for nicknames. An option. Judging by the thanks the original post in this thread generated, there are a lot of people that would like to be able to turn nicknames off once and for all. No one needs to get angry over this, act like a child, or throw insults. It's a request for an option. That's all. No one will be harmed by it. If you like your nicknames, you can keep them.

Speaking of an easy button, a simple option to toggle them on and off is way easy then going through the steps that Questdog mention (which did not work for MLB in the past). I am going to try what Questdog posted using an MLB game. |

I followed your steps in my MLB game and it worked like a charm. Thanks Questdog. Not sure what Wolf is doing wrong.

However, like the Wolfman, I'd also like to see an in-game option to just turn them on/off, if for no other reason than for simplicity's sake.

I prefer to create nicknames for players myself, usually based on their performance or their popularity.

Retire Uniform numbers---now you can't edit uniform numbers with a right click on the roster screen, nor can you change their position in Commish mode That drop down box in the amateur draft that says Feeder leagues or feeder + additional players. For some reason that is doing something to the historical player import where few players are pulled in if you have a feeder league as well. That is why I am hesistant about toggle switches that require programming for something that is easy as deleting the names from the nickname.txt file. If Markus can do it and it's easy and it doesn't effect other parts, then I have NO problem with a check mark box in game settings, however, past instances like I mentioned, do not say that will happen...so I'd rather have a workaround than another broken part.

Create a bunch of free agents and see if the nicknames don't return.
