Best Time to Convert to new edition

When is the best/correct time to convert a save game from a previous year of OOTP to a newer one (in-game time, not real time)?

Off-season, I assume? Does it matter?

Traditionally, the first day of the off-season is considered the prime time to migrate, but I have not had problems importing at any time in the off-season. I've even heard tell of some doing it in the middle of the season, but I've never tried that (and wouldn't).

I transferred my saved game from 14 to 15 in the middle of a season without any difficulty. However, when I transfer from 15 to 16, I will do it the first day of preseason as Questdog and others, have recommended.
