Exactly what I suggested.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

Lots of fun discussion here. I saw the Beyond the Box Score article and contacted them about doing the same thing in OOTP. They liked the idea, so two of them are going to GM the expansion teams and I'll set up an online league. We'll do the expansion draft and sim through a few seasons, with them writing about the experience on the site. Should be fun.

The above results in a base arrangement of 54 three-game series. To fit that into a standard 26-week season with All-Star Break, one needs to have three weeks in which 3 series are played instead of the normal 2. That means a minimum of 6 two-game series.

You don't need to change the number of games played against clubs to get those two-game series. Instead, just switch some pairs of three-game series from 2 three-game series into 1 four-game and 1 two-game series. Same number of games, just split up into series differently. So, for example, instead of the home games against a division rival being 3-3-3 in terms of series, change it to 4-3-2. Or change the six games played at home or away against a team in another division from a 3-3 series arrangement to 4-2.

Make such changes and one ends up with 6 two-game series, 42 three-game series, and 6 four-game series. Total: 54 series. (Which, incidentally, is exactly the number and series distribution the NL played for many of its two 6-team division seasons.)
