RMY Injuries.txt Generator

RMY Injuries.txt Generator

Contents of zip:

INJ.xls
injuries.txt

The basic aim of this is to generate injuries.txt files with a wider variety of injuries, with the Excel setup and sample injuries.txt file weighted towards more DTD and short/medium term injuries. This is fully configurable in the Excel tool, so if you want to create an injuries file suitable for an Aztec Death League, or with a few bruises suitable for a junior league, or with horrendous flesh injuries for a Soft-Bodied Aliens league, you can .

The INJ.xls tool uses a couple of basic ideas to create a range of injuries (see sheet "setup"):

1 - Injury Type: Flesh, Bone, Joint, Muscle, Tendon, Ligament.
2 - Injury Level: Minor, Low, Medium, High, Major.

Only 'Minor' and 'Low' injury levels are setup to be DTD injuries.
(Note: this doesn't appear to work 100% of the time in-game; I have seen injuries set as DTD occur as not DTD fairly often, with non-DTD injuries occuring as DTD less often.)

For instance in my default setup, 'flesh' injuries are setup at only minor ('Bruised') and low ('Gashed') levels, though for the aforementioned ADL you could setup more serious flesh injuries, such as 'Severed'. Joint injuries do not have a major or serious level, etc. All of this can be changed, simply by entering a description in the "Injury Type and In-Game Description" table. You can also determine whether the type is used in the injury description in game by entering a 0 (for no) or a 1 (for yes) in the row for "use type in-game" (e.g. the default setup will say "Torn Achilles Tendon", or "Broken Leg", but not "Broken Leg Bone").

Next on the setup sheet, is Base Days Injured (BDI), for the above Injury Type/Injury Level grid. So, a minor flesh injury has a BDI of just 1. A major tendon injury has a BDI of 150. The minimum and maximum days injured to be inserted into the injuries.txt file itself are then increased, with Injury Level, Severity (body part) and a multiplier. Don't set these too high without checking the 'view' sheet to see how the actual figures work out. Also, remember that SEIs may automatically increase the time injured to make up a season. The idea here is to create more injuries of several weeks/months, with a wide variety of times between them.

Last on the setup sheet are figures for '% chance of SEI/CEI for High/Major injuries'. When an injury line is actually written into the injuries.txt file, High and Major level injuries will randomly have SEI or CEI (major only) enabled depending on the figures entered here. The game appears to impose too high a % of SEIs/CEIs internally for SEI/CEI enabled, so this gives the opportunity of having more injuries last 6-9 months. Also on this sheet are figures for minimum/maximum DTD % effect on performance, for Minor or Low injuries respectively (the maximum isn't an absolute max; severity is added, and the game also has a random modifier).

'data' sheet:

This looks more complicated than it actually is .

Listed by row are all the basic body parts that can be injured in your game - in my setup, there are 40 of them. Some of these are specific ligaments or tendons taken from the default file, some are more generic parts of the body. A 'Body Type' integer must also be entered, as per the game requirements - 1 for arms, 2 for legs, 3 for torso, 4 for head (and illnesses, which I haven't included because they don't appear to work).

The next 2 columns are 'ILL' (for illnesses) and 'SPEC' (currently not used), so we'll ignore those for now.

You'll now see that there are 9 columns, each repeated 6 times - 9 times for each Injury Type (flesh, bone, etc.). The first 5 columns are Injury Level - minor, low, med, high, major.

For each body part, you enter (or use what I've entered) a 'Severity' - for each Injury Type and each Injury Level. For instance, a broken finger is less severe than a broken knee; a broken knee is more severe than a twisted knee. While this is determined to a large extent by the 'BASE' figures on the setup sheet, after testing some injury combinations needed more detail, hence the indivdual severity. The 'severity' figure is also a determining factor in the gap between minimum days injured and max days injured, so can be used to influence the unpredictability of time injured.

Under each Injury Type there are also 4 columns (PIT, RUN, COL, HBP) which determine whether the particular injury can occur when pitching, running, in collision, or HBP/fight. These just require a 1 for yes, a 0 or blank for no. For instance, 'Ribs' might have a flesh or bone injury as COL and HBP, but for muscle it could be PIT or COL. These are effectively the boolean values exactly as written to the file for each injury entry.

Note: don't overdo the RUN category, which seems to produce the most in-game injuries. I've included some things that can be injured in a slide (which RUN includes), but including too many may result in an unrealistically large number of hand injuries, for instance, where no slide was involved.

Lastly on the 'data' sheet, in row 2 are "weighting" figures. These determine how many times each individual injury is actually written to the file. In theory, this allows you to broadly weight the kind of injuries you get in the game. The weightings are generally set to emphasise short-medium term injuries, with severe ones more unlikely. Setting these figures too high will generate very large files .

On the 'view' sheet, you shouldn't enter anything (except to copy formulae down if you add more injuries to the original list - though this isn't essential, as this sheet is for info only and is not actually used to generate the injuries.txt file). Don't delete the figures in grey in the first 2 rows.

There are 3 buttons here: Show Min, Show Max, Generate injuries.txt. These should be self explanatory - show min shows 'minimum days injured', show max shows 'maximum days injured'.

Generate injuries.txt does exactly that. It does NOT backup your existing file, but won't overwrite it without a prompt. I recommend you take a copy first, obviously.

The injuries.txt file in the zip is created with the settings exactly in the Excel tool.

Note, no two files created with the same settings will be exactly the same, as there are some random elements involved in the exact DTD figures and SEI/CEI booleans. The enclosed injuries.txt file has 100% of major injuries producing a SEI/CEI boolean, with the figures in Excel entered at 100. There are only 37 potential SEIs and 9 potential CEIs out of 1,144 injuries on the file.

The Excel file requires macros to be enabled to be of any use. You generally shouldn't trust macros from some unknown person on the internet. If you don't trust me, don't use it. I vouch for the safety of this zip only (fwiw). If you download a version from somewhere else that's had the macro replaced by a virus, don't blame me.

Thanks for your work. I'm restarting 1871 again and will use your sample injury.txt with injuries set on average. I'll whine to you when Cap Anson gets his CEI the first week of the season.

If you're using my 1871 QS, it won't work. The injuries.txt is read in at the creation of a new game and can't be replaced - which means it's already resident in the QS.

Hey redmark, maybe a stupid question, how did you compile your injury list? Is there somewhere where this is stored in the game?

This is my own bastardized version. It's a fictional universe with historical players imported one at a time. That gives me an amateur draft and a full field of minor leaguers plus historical rookies assigned to their original teams. The downside, of course, is that it takes a while to import the historical players and assign them.

As an added bonus, this time I'm using the arod23/garlon db and figuring potential on peak seasons, along with your injury.txt. Now I can set injuries and aging to normal.

See the first post; the injury list is created by some tables in Excel. So, I have a list of 40 body parts, 6 types of injury (flesh, bone, joint, muscle, tendon, ligament), 5 levels (minor, low, medium, high, major) and then basically assign 'severity' to certain combinations, or leave blank ones that don't make sense. Then theres a load of calculations, click a button and Excel creates the injury file. I took some of the ideas for injuries from the injuries.txt that came with the game (e.g. specific muscles/ligaments), then added in some other body parts and decided whether they have flesh/bone/joint/muscle/tendon/ligament etc. With 5 levels of injury, you then get quite a bit of variety.

edit: there's a file called injuries.txt in the ...data/database folder.

Sorry, I meant the list in your second post, that detailed the injuries that actually occured in your simulated season.

Ah, I see. League Home Page, "Injuries" on the right hand side (not 'under the knife') - lists all injuries for the season.

Thanks Redmark, no matter how much I have been playing around with all the features, with so much to look at things keep slipping past me.

How do you put this into a league you've already started?

You can't, unfortunately. The injuries.txt is read at game creation, but then the injuries are stored in the game files and the injuries.txt file is not referred to again.

I'm not so sure...The game converts the injury file to a .dat file once your season begins. What you can do is begin a league from scratch after inserting Redmark's injury file into the correct game directory. After creation of that league (name it whatever you like), copy the injuries.dat file from the league folder and paste it into your game folder (whatever league you want to use it). I would reccomend backing up the original just in case- I call mine injuries_original .dat. The game runs fine after this- and I cannot confrim with certainty that it is actually working- but my CEI's are certainly way down since I did this.

I've not tried that, but you should be able to tell fairly quickly - mine will generate more 'generic' injuries (sprained wrist, fractured shin, damaged achilles, etc), without some of the very specific ones in the original file.

Yup yup...this works like a charm...i have also done this with the name and city files after league creation and have had no issues, other than it working much better...

What about for 6.5 converted leagues?

I really like the idea of more d2d injuries, as in baseball it seems like 90% of the injuries that occur are able to be played through at some level of effectiveness, and it's often just a decision as whether or not it's worth it for a player to risk aggravation playing at a lower level anyways.

Your file does have a few strange lingual outputs. The labrum is not a muscle, but a soft tissue area around the shoulder that is, I believe, more cartlidge than anything else.

I'm not sure about a "tight" muscle making a guy be less effective for two weeks. I'd think maybe two categories of strains would work better, so you could have a minor hamstring strain make a guy be 95% for 1-2 weeks, or a major hamstring strain make a guy be 85% for 2-3 weeks or put him out. I don't know, just seems a little more realistic to me than a "tight" hamstring making someone struggle--that just sounds like he needs to warm up and stretch out!

For bones, you could use "bruised" instead of "cracked." Bones, and certainly their areas that are used interchangeably, can be bruised. So a "bruised elbow" or "bruised toe" make more sense to me as minor injuries than a "cracked elbow" or "cracked toe."

Anyway, I think I'll be using this in the future.
