1952 The Rebirth of Baseball

Premise
In this alternate timeline World War II is far more devastating to the US then in our timeline. By 1942 travel is limited and all major sports leagues, including the National and American Leagues, susspend operations. Without the major leagues baseball returns to the era of local teams playing against other local teams. During the war the US ecomony falters and the war does not end till 1948. Finally...some men decide to give major league baseball and rebirth.

New Owners Promise the Birth of a New Baseball League.
February 12, 1950--Baseball News.

Today at a meeting held in New York Tim Gignac, Matt Miller, Matt Provencher, and Bob McMullin announced the founding of a new baseball league that will cover the United States. The yet unnamed league is projected to have teams in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles. The owners stated that they are looking at adding more teams and plan to have their first season in 1952.

12 Team Franchises for Major League Baseball.
September 8, 1950--Baseball News.

Today in New York the unnamed league got a name, Major League Baseball. Tim Gignac, speaking for the new league ownsers, stated that though they had no affiliation with the owners and leagues that folded prior to the war they decided on the name to "show the world that we will have the best players and best ball parks."

It was also announced that the league will have two seperate divisions of 6 teams each. The Atlantic division will contain the clubs: Philadelphi Flyers, Washington Chiefs, Baltimore Clippers, Pittsburgh Spiders, New York Knights, and Boston Bulldogs. The West division willl contain the clubs: Detroit Bombers, San Francicso Gold, Los Angeles Bruins, St. Louis Steamsers, Cleveland Blackhawks, and the Chicago Rockets. The two division winners will, according to Tim Gignac, "meet in the World Series best of 7."

The group also announced that an inaugural player draft will be held in June 1951 where players from all across the nation will be eligible. Exact times and dates have yet to be decided.

There have also been reports of several ownership groups across the nation that are disappointed that the leaugue is only allowing the twelve already identified teams in the league. Legal action has been suggested, but nothing concrete has occured so far. An unnamed source stated, "We could field a club just as easily as anyone of the clubs they have now and we know it could be profitable for all involved, but they seem steadfast in not going over 12 teams."

Peek behind the curtain.
So, when I started thinking I wanted teams in Los Angeles and San Francisco. I also wanted two teams in New York, Chicago, St. Louis, and Philadelphi just like there was IRL. However, as I started to add up the teams I was going well over 16 teams and even 16 teams seemed a little excessive for a "new" league. I decided to get rid of the two team cities (the owners wouldn't want competition) and ended up with a twelve team league. Now can the other owners force expansion or will the result to forming a new second league?

In the bottom of the 1st inning Detroit's George Kell and Roy Campenlla got singles to put men on 1st and 2nd with 1 out. It was all Preacher Roe would allow the Bombers as he shut them down and dominated them for a complete game giving up just 4 hits. Trucks was not far behind Roe though as the score remained 0-0 until the top of the 5th.

Leading off the top of the 5th Roe reached on an error by 3B George Kell and Duke Snider would drive him in with an RBI single. That 1 run would hold until the top of the 9th when Roe would hit a sacrifice fly to score Luke Easter and give Philadelphia the 2-0 lead. $#$%@#$#@$@#%$@#% OOTP 23

So, after the end of the World Series I told the game to sim to Jan 1st, 1953.

Erased my teams. Put in 8 MLB teams. I have no way of going back. I am giving up on the idea of this fictional league.

Great idea. Maybe someone else can figure out how to get OOTP 23 to do it.

Ouch.

Next time, uncheck "Enable automatic evolution of the league". If you don't, it'll wipe your fictional world and re-install the real world. (I found this out the hard way, too!)

Did you save your league after the season? (I am an obsessive saver, because I am prone to the same kind of catastrophe you experienced.) If you have a save, you ought to be able to simply restore the sim at that point, and uncheck to “automatic evolution” box. I hope so. It was a great idea, and, for once, Philly won!
