Season Score

I'm a fairly new OOTP player and so far I've finished two seasons with fictional rosters. At the end of each season I'm given a score and they've both been pretty low (lower 30s). Neither team made the playoffs but both were in contention until the final week. Even when I look at the fictional teams who won it all, the first got a score of 97, but the second got a score of 74.

Anyways, I guess my main question is where does this score come from? Is it based on my record? On my transactions? A combination? Also, the natural follow-ups, how do I increase the score and does it really matter in the first place?

Thanks in advance.

Markus has never deigned to reveal the formula behind The Score, but it does generally correlate with success, obviously. But whether success is measured by contention, wins, runs scored, or playoff victories, and whether it's then weighted by payroll, difficulty settings, owner expectations, or anything else is unknown. It's quite possible that all of the above are involved.

Personally, I would like to know more about how it works. There was a suggestion made for OOTP2008 about breaking The Score down into a "report card" that gives you individual grades in several more easily understandable categories that I'm hoping gets some consideration, but I have no idea if it will happen or not.

To answer the second part of your question, though, ultimately it doesn't matter. Your team owner isn't going to fire you based on your Score (though, obviously, since you're going to get lower scores when you lose, firing and getting low scores are likely to be somewhat linked ). It's just a cosmetic way of helping you place your performances over multiple seasons in context with each other.

Good post, Kai, and good suggestion for the "report card," whoever made it. It's hard to relate to the score when you don't know what it means or how you did well or screwed up.

I can second that!

I had a season where I went 110-52 and won the whole thing and finished with a 85 score or something and the next season I finished with only 88 wins and lost in the finals and got a 100.

I think that the game determines where it "thinks" you should be and that has a lot to do with it also.
