Need technical help
Before I submit a ticket and bug those people, I figure I'd ask the community.
For the last week or so, my game's been crashing in the middle of June and giving me a Microsoft C++ Runtime error, it says the game is causing the Runtime Library to crash in an unusual manner or something. Any ideas what I can do? I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the game, no luck. PLEASE don't tell me my league is corruptted, I've been playing it for 30 seasons, I might cry

I don't get how a solo league can become corrupted, maybe someone can explain that to me. Try PMing athletics17 who does the help desk and i am drawing a blank on the new person who is good at problem solving. ( look in the thread about 1884 draft by ActionJackson) |

I am not sure the exact problem but in general files get corrupted when you have a bad sector on the HD that is often caused by power failures or some kind of crash when writing. In my experience HD errors are the most common but I wear the heck out of HDs. I often upgrade the mainboard, vid card, memory, and processor but keep the same HD for 3 or more iterations of upgrades. Since I don't have a huge amount of videos or pictures my 2 .5 terrabyte drives haven't really hit their limits.
To the OP do you have backups? I am not the best at backing up but backing up every few seasons is a good idea. Maybe a disk check can help. Sometimes files written to a bad sector can be recovered. Not sure if it is the problem but I had that problem with other games when using my ancient HD that I now realize is bad. |

i've seen someone post before that to many files in the league caused memory issues, Think Markus released a tool to clean up leagues from all the deleted players or teams that can clog the game up after 30 seasons. If the game was running slowly that might be the cause but other than that i don' really know.
Can you provide more details as how the game was running before it crashed does it always crash on the same day or just in that same month just randomly |

It's in the same month, but not the same day, it's... sometimes when I'm saving, sometimes when I click for a report...

What happened to me with one league, was my battery ran out on the laptop- didn't notice not plugged in-
the game shut off right at the amateur draft 9which i hold each march 15) when i reopened the game (last saved jan 12) it would get to march 15, click on continue draft and game crashes.. this kept going on and on, till i got an idea i went on vaccation. then the draft played out fine (of course my scouts made all the draft choices- but oh well) and this happens each season so on march 14 every year now i go on vaccation, and return march 16 and the draft is done and the rest of the game plays fine -of course i have to make a quick transaction check and overturn the odd goofy trade that gets made when i am in hawaii. but a click or two and rosters are back to where they were previously maybe something like that can help you with your problem |

The following advice is to be used at your own risk. Try using the Purge Tool that Markus developed. The Purge Tool removes 'deleted' teams and players from the game and hence reduces file size. This is a very complex operation, use at your own risk and never without backing up your league files. The Purge Tool can be found by clicking on the OOTP button > Game Database Info and at the lower right click on Tools and at the bottom of that sub-menu is the Purge Tool. Alternatives would be doing a disk check (as Biggio mentioned) and a Defragmentation of your HD. Please let me know if any of these methods is successful at solving your issue. Thanks!

*shudders at the thought of defragging a 1.5 TB hard drive*
I had a Windows Update issue a few weeks back, and ran disk check then and it was perfectly fine. I guess I'll have to run a defrag at some point. Can't hurt, would just take a metric ton of time.

It takes a lot less time than disk check with the option to search for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. Even a .5 TB drive takes a half day to do that. Did it check for and fix bad sectors or was it just standard check disk. I hope the problem is easier than check disk takes forever. At least with defrag it can do it in the background while you are doing something else.

It scanned for everything, it took about 14 or 15 hours, it was horribad.
This C++ library thing happens at random spots, too. I'm at 9/1 now in game, and it still happens, whenever I click a random screen, or something. I deleted all my messages, too, and it stlll happened.

To do so please go here: Download: Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86) - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details No need to uninstall anything, btw.

Now that error occurs whenever the loading is at, "Loading default text file".

Maybe install in another place, other than the default place.

Geez, I soooo love the C++ documentation. "Terminated in an unusual way." That is AWESOME. I hate to say it, but it could be a corrupt league issue. One way to check is to load up a new league, run it, and see if it crashes as well. Give it 30 years if you have to.
FWIW I've also managed to blow up OOTP by messing around with league structures and putting the AI into corners it didn't know how to get out of without taking control of the whole league. Maybe make a backup of your league, go on vacation, and then simming past June?

No, because sometimes the program won't even LOAD now. It stalls out at the default text file - which might be a league issue. If I knew what/where that was, I could take my backed up dtf out of it's folder and stick it in there.
